Project Scope Please provide a detailed summary of the project: The Museum of Western Colorado has been working to become one of the premier sources of information about the cultural, natural, and living history of the region. How are the records historically significant to your institution? The records are historically significant to the Museum of Western Colorado because almost daily, researchers access the collection for information about local and regional historical properties, the areas paleontological and natural resource histories, and the people who lived here. How are the records historically significant to your locality, region, and the state? The records are historically significant to the locality, region, and state because researchers access the collection for information about local and regional historical properties, the areas paleontological and natural resource histories, and the people who lived here.

Is there any additional information about your institution that would assist in the evaluation of your project? The Museum of Western Colorado is the largest multi-type museum between Salt Lake City, Utah and Denver, Colorado. The museum includes four major facilities, four outdoor paleontology sites, a research library, several programs and services including dinosaur digs and gift shops. Over 100,000 people visit the museum and its four facilities annually. Primarily utilized by local, state, and federal agencies, historic preservationists, authors, genealogists, students, and members of the news media, and the collection is regularly utilized in exhibitions and publications. What is the public benefit?

The public benefit is better access to the Daily Sentinel collection via better conservation and preservation methods. It is providing better access to one-of-a-kind materials to the public. Goals and Expected Results Define the goals and expected results of the project: How does this project promote the preservation of the repositorys collection? The projects promotes the preservation of the repositorys collection by including and being a part of educational programming, exhibitions, research, publication, and by the collection and preservation of historical resources. How does this project promote access to the repositorys collection? This project promotes access to the Daily Sentinel Collection by upgrading to the storage it ensures the future use of this collection as a primary historical resource. What are the expected results? The expected results are newer and better storage and higher access to the Daily Sentinel Collection. What performance measures will be utilized to show that results have been obtained? No performance measures will be utilized to show that results have been obtained. It is merely taking the items out of sub-standard folders and putting them into acid-free, archival certified folders and boxes. Staff and Volunteers (Please list each staff member and volunteer involved in the project; qualifications, job title, and responsibility in the project.) Plan of Work Please outline your plan of work. Grant work may not begin before February 15, 2012 and must be completed by June 15, 2012. What are the steps for each phase of the project? Who are the staff members involved in each step, what are their responsibilities? The project consists of one phase and that is moving the current Daily Sentinel Collection photographs and clippings from sub-standard folders into newer, acid-free, archival certified folders and boxes.

There is one primary staff member, Michael Menard, the head archivist and librarian for the Museum of Western Colorado. All other manual assistance is provided by five to ten volunteers of the museum. What are the techniques involved? No special techniques are involved. What is the time frame for each step? The total time frame is two months. What are the projected outcomes at the completion of the project? The projected outcome at the completion of this project is better storage for the Daily Sentinel Collection, which will prolong its durability and by extension make the collection accessible for historical research.

Section III: Budget Instructions: The Grant Request is the amount of grant money being requested. This amount must be matched by the organization on a one-to-one basis by a cash match, in-kind match, or a combination of the two. The Cash match is the amount of money your institution contributes as part of the one-to-one match. The In-Kind match means services or products contributed to the project. In-kind match includes such items as staff time, volunteer time, supplies, and donated services. Please be as detailed as possible. For Personnel, please list each person, his/her position, and amount. For Materials and expenses, please itemize. Do not simply put supplies, but itemize the type of supplies. For Travel and mileage, please itemize per travel event. Please use attachments as necessary. The Total Budget is the combined amount of grant request and local match.
