Sir Joseph Banks high School in Revesby is receiving funding from the Federal Government and the NSW Government under the School Communities National Partnership. Riverwood Public School is receiving funding from the Federal Government and the NSW Government under the Literacy and Numeracy National Partnership. Figures supplied by DEEWR were correct as at 29 August 2012. Figures supplied by Department of innovation, Industry, Science and Research.
Dr Dan White, Executive Director, Catholic Schools. Letter to parents/carers, 18 September 2012
WhAT ThESE CUTS WILL MEAN
With no additional funds to cover cost-of-living and salary increases, there will be pressure on school fees, and it may not be possible to continue some important programs set up to help students, especially those who are the most marginalized or disadvantaged in their learning. There will need to be an ongoing review of staffing levels for some key projects, especially those conducted by Catholic Education Office personnel. I cannot emphasise strongly enough what a cruel blow this is to the thousands of everyday Catholic parents who have chosen to send their child to a Catholic school.
Maurie Mulheron, NSW Teachers Federation President, said a recent AUSPOLL survey reveals:
More than 70% oppose the $1.7 billion in cuts to public education announced by the OFarrell Government and only 14% support them. 70% said the cuts would have a negative impact on children in schools. 82% said they believed it was either important or very important to increase funding for public schools. Only 28% said they would have voted for Mr OFarrell if they knew he would make the cuts.
Prior to the state election in 2011, the then Shadow Minister for Education, Piccoli and Shadow Deputy Premier Andrew Stoner signed pledges to Invest in TAFE. This pledge promised the citizens of NSW they would, if elected:
Guarantee TAFE funding Invest in permanent TAFE teaching positions Ensure affordable access to all.
You can fight the cuts to our schools and TAFEs by signing petition at the bottom of the page or online at: www.stopthecuts.com.au or at my website at: www.darylmelhammp.com
SIG N TH E PETITION
I oppose Barry OFarrells cuts to NSW schools and TAFE. These cuts will hurt every school and every student in NSW. We call on Barry OFarrell to reverse his cuts and rule out any cuts to education, TAFE and school funding.
