Phase 1 Case Study Part 1: Demographic Information

As part of my practicing teaching I have to choose a student to realize a case study. The student that I choose was little Pedrito; this is a pseudonym for privacy purposes. The student that I decide to use as a resource for this case study is five years old. The school that the student attends is CDPRE and he is in kindergarten. The student address is Urbanizacin Lirios Cala calle San Martes I 354 Juncos Puerto Rico 00777. The student likes baseball and basketball games. My student fathers name is Big Pedrito and the mother name is Maria. Mr. Big Pedrito works at Metronic Company and Mrs. Maria is a police officer. Phase 1 Case Study Part II: Justification Every student when start in kindergarten should have developed some minimal skills in general concepts. The instrument the kindergarten teacher use to verify if the students have the minimal skills required for the level is through the use of a diagnostic test. The diagnostic test aloud the teacher to know what are the students strengths and weaknesses. The Diagnostic test is design for test oral expression, colors, shapes, sizes, vocabulary, parts of the body, vowels, consonants, and numbers. The student selected for this case study performed poorly in this diagnostic test. His results point out that the student has some cognitive weaknesses that we as teachers need to target. The student also shows that his behavioral attitudes are under the expected for his age. According with my observation in class during the first month of class I have selected Little Pedrito. I observed this student shows to be behind in some areas where for his age he is expected to perform. For example he is supposed to follow instruction, grab the pencil in a correct way, be able of stay seat it for long periods according his age. Also I can observe some problems in the cognitive development. When you see this student for the first time, because he is tallest and husky compare to the rest of the group, you assume he is mature enough. The true is he has developed more of the expected physically but intellectually is behind. Little Pedrito when is sitting in the floor with the rest of the group he doesnt pay attention. He is distracted, talking with the peers that are next to him. Then when he is send to his chair to realize the application activities he is lost unable of realize the task little Pedrito is one of my few students that still dont know how to write his name. Phase 1 Case Study Part III: Hypothetical Account Little Pedrito shows an adequate behavioral but in the cognitive area I observe that he face some difficulties. In addition Little Pedrito shows some problem in fine motor activities. Possible causes for his behavioral and problems could be that during the previous years before start in kindergarten he doesnt count with the experience.

Case Study Phase II Part V Analysis of Students (based on data) In order to gather some information that will guide and help me in the process of tutoring the student I choose to be my case study I schedule with his mother to come to the school for a meeting. In order to have an effective and accretive meeting I seek for a questionnaire that will help me to gather information. For this purpose the other Teacher Candidate Miss. Mirayda Gonzlez facilitates the one she prepared. During this meeting I found out the following points: that the birth wasnt unexpected was planned, the mother took good care of herself and the fetus during her pregnancy period. I found out that one of the possible reason why he was having problems writing was because his mother is left handed and the student is right handed even when she want to help guiding the student hands she cant because of this. After this meeting I validate my hypothesis that my students dont like active activities. The mother states he is lazy and she bought play dough to him to use it so get strength in his grip and he does it for a little and then stops.

Case Study Part III Part VII Final Reactions

During the process of the Case Study I have learn and understand the importance of this project. We as future teachers need to always identify in our classroom a person that have needs and not be indifferent toward this through implanting new ways to help them to achieve the learning goals. Teachers have a great and huge impact among their students and this impact is for a lifetime period. Teachers when shows caring and take action can help to transform and even safe a life and we contribute with our Country helping shape a good citizens. These people are the future of Puerto Rico, in their hand rests our future. The actions taken in this case study were to develop the fine motor skills of my student, strength the muscle; also help the student in the cognitive area (tracing letters and numbers). I involved the student parents in the process. The grandmother of the students help to practice Little Pedrito directing his hand while he was writing, his mother cant help him because she is left handed.
