Karla Gradilla Period 1 Industrial Revolution Unit Essay

The pain was not worth the gain because during the Industrial revolution there were many negative outcomes like child hood labor, unsanitary factories and poor working conditions. Children left school to work, and got paid really low. They also started to work, so they can help their parents feed the other family members Children got paid 27 cents a day for 14 hours This shows how many kids were exploited for their work. They were mistreated badly. Children often left school at 12 or 13 years old to work This shows how children needed to leave their education behind just to help their family members, the factories wasnt so much fun to these children in fact it was really dangerous many kids died or got injured really bad in the machines. Girls sometimes took factory jobs so that their brothers could stay in school This shows how family members would help each other out; the girls had to give up some of their responsibilities to make sure their brothers stayed in school. In the 1880s children made up more than 5 percent of the industrial labor force This means that owners of the factories exploited kids because they worked faster not only that but they did better jobs. The industrial revolution did create jobs but what they didnt know was that factories werent safe and they werent sanitary either. It was too dark in these storage places to see well, but a man could run his hand over these piles of meat and sweep off handfuls of the dried dung of rats. (The jungle) This quote shows how factories were dirty they had poisoning rats walking all over the meat in these factories, workers never even bother to clean this factories not even the owners because they knew it would of cost them money. The acid had eaten their fingers off each cut represented a chance for blood poisoning. This quote shows us how hard and dangerous was for people to work in these factories not only that but also how dirty and unsanitary the factories were. There were men who worked in the cooking rooms, in the midst of steam and sickening odors, by artificial light; in these rooms the germs of tuberculosis might live... This line shows how many diseases were being passed down to people in the factories how many products and goods were being contaminated by peoples diseases or germs. Workers would use the restrooms and wouldnt even bother to wash their hand, thats how dirty these factories workers were.

Owners use to take advantage of their workers. During the Industrial revolution there were really bad poor working conditions people had no choice but to work for small hourly wage wage slavery. This shows how many families had to start working to feed their families they were exploited for their work and also mistreated. Rarely did the government provide public assistance and unemployment insurance didnt exist. This means that the workers couldnt get any help by anybody and if they got injured really bad the owners wouldnt care means you had to keep on working or you would have got fired. Repetitive and mind numbing work made accidents very common Many workers were getting into accidents with the machines because they would do the same job over and over without stopping and without any protection that they would sometimes get their hands stuck into the factories machines workers couldnt get any vacations and if a adult was sick and couldnt work for the day they had to send their children to work for them because they, were times were people would take your jobs and you wouldnt work for that factory anymore. People were looking for jobs everywhere they were capable of doing anything so they could find a job to feed their family members. There was places called the ghetto because there was really bad living conditions, some people had to live in an apartment with 10 people because they had nowhere else to go these places were called tenement apartments it was poor sanitations in these apartments and since the places were so small it was easier to pass down many diseases. These were many of the negative things that occur during the industrial revolution and in the overall I dont believe the pain was worth the gain because many families were affected by these situations they has poor working conditions and were being contaminated by the meat factories that carried many type of diseases also many young kids were badly injured and many also died and had to leave their education.
