Uses and Gratification Theory This theory is used to describe the reasons as to how and why audiences look

for content by finding them through a media format. This theory explains how the audience will search for the type of media that enables their knowledge, social interactions and diversions to be further developed. The theorists behind this theory believe that the audience do not passively search for it, but actively take a different approach to interpreting and integrating the media into their lives. This theory suggests that audiences, using access to media, fulfill their gratification requirements. The theory stresses that the media itself is a competitor against others sources that provide information for an audiences gratification. Theorist began to gather pieces of information that would lead to explain the effect of media and the influence it holds over a audience, at the time of when Television broadcasting began, in the 1960s. Some theorists such as Jay Blumler offered suggestions and possibilities of the kinds of motion the audience take on within the different media forms. The Active Audience

Diversion: This is when someone uses the media to divert away from their
personal problems or daily routines.

Intentionality: This is when the audiences former plans meant that theyd
need the use of media.

Personal Identity: Searching for self-understanding, reinforcing reality into

ones mind, giving them reassurance and comprehension.

Personal Relationships: Substituting the media for a sense of companionship. Surveillance: This is information of the causes that affect someone and/or will
help enable a person to achieve something. Following from some of the points above, I believe that our production will entail some of these and give the audience a reason to seek the media for satisfaction. For example, they will divert away from their routines to enjoy some time, watching a film that may bring them relaxation. The storyline and genre of the film itself would give audiences gratification as our film has been designed to lighten up a mood, give someone a sense of bliss and happiness. Below are some of the motifs that run in our film:

Maturity: The growth and change of duties and responsibilities a person must
hold and the way someone performs them.

Time Management and Commitment: This is to set objectives and goals that
will take a person towards the right path i.e. University and careers.

Loneliness: This phase is undergone by many people but the audience will
find satisfaction and amusement from how this impacted our character Olivias life in the film

These can be taken to be morals for peoples lives and be used to gratification purposes as, by the theory, they are being accessed through the media.
