How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of the messenger who announces peace, who brings good news, who announces salvation, who says to Zion, Your God reigns. Isaiah 52.7
Isaiahs words ring true even today, dont they? Do you ever get tired of the bad news that surrounds us? My whole demeanor changes when someone comes to me and says, Pastor, I have some good news to share with you. Wouldnt life be different if we didnt hear so much about tragedy, violence and bad news? The feet of someone who brings good news really are beautiful in some sense because that person comes to tell us that God reigns! Well, this year, I want to introduce the congregation to different stories of good news that happens every day. Sometimes the stories happen in the middle of challenging times, sometimes in less difficult times, but always, I am finding out, people experience good news in surprising ways. Every month, I will introduce a different story from someone who cant wait to share the good news that she or he has experienced from God. John Lieswyn, a native of the Netherlands, and someone who has travelled and lived all over the world, has experienced God in many, surprising ways. As I talked with him recently he recounted this story. Peace, Pr Tim

Missed Opportunity
Last week Anne and I received in the mail an announcement that our Medicare supplemental insurance would increase by $1880 per year for 2013, a nasty surprise. For the next four days, with the help of an agent, I searched other insurance companies to lessen the financial impact. By Monday morning this still had not been resolved. That afternoon I had to go to Fort Wayne for an appointment with my doctor. Just before getting to the doctor's office there was an exit marked Dupont North, like in Ohio, I expected another sign for an exit to the South, but no such luck. I traveled another 32 miles before coming back to his office. Just before getting out of the car I noticed a warning light indicating engine trouble! In the doctors office the receptionist advised me I did not have an appointment (which I did). By this time after the trouble of the last few days, I was getting very upset. I told the receptionist I came from Defiance and the doctor needed to see me for only a few minutes. To no avail, she would not allow me to see the doctor. The next day I was physically ill. Anne said to me:" You should not get so worked up, see what happens when you do"! During my prayer time I realized what I had done. I remembered Acts 16:25 when Paul was in trouble. Paul in prison chained to the wall, started praising God and singing out loud. That was witnessing, and the result was that the jailers family accepted Christ. (Read the story it is rather interesting) What did I do? I gave the receptionist a hard time, instead of asking God to bless her in the difficult task of turning me away. That would have been true Christian witness!!! John Lieswyn

Someone has apparently taken several dish towels and dish cloths from the kitchen home to wash them and forgot to return them or we have misplaced them. DEACON SUPPORT TEAM

Included in the last few months Trumpets were articles about your deacons. If you were not aware of your deacon, do you now know her or him? We hope you have a sincere interest in getting to know your deacon as a present and future friend and confidant. Our Pastor is the best resource with whom to discuss questions and concerns, but your deacon can also serve you in a similar way. Deacons are not exempt from having a deacon of their own. At times we need someone willing to listen and we turn to our deacon. As mentioned the last several months, deacons meet bi-monthly to discuss a variety of topics, but more importantly we are available for you when your needs might require someone to talk with other than Pastor Tim occasionally. We are grateful for the opportunity to serve the members of Zions Lutheran Church and we encourage you to reach out to your deacon whenever the need arises. If you are unsure about your deacon, please call the church office for assistance. Dick Anderson
