For this activity, you will scan the entire magazine or newspaper to make observations on the general layout of the periodical. Then you will choose ONE article to read (as well as you can!) and study in greater depth. YOU MUST INCLUDE A COPY OF THAT ARTICLE or you will lose 5 points! Please answer the questions below on a separate sheet of paper.

1.Which magazine or newspaper did you choose, and what was the date of the issue? I chose the L express. The date of issue was 30 mai 2012 2.Did you choose to read it online or in hardcopy version? It was a hard copy in online format. 3.What was featured on the cover, or as the featured stories? Mal de dos les mthodes qui marchent vraiment 4.Was this cover story different from what you might see in the equivalent American version of this type of periodical for the same time period (look it up if needed)? Did it surprise you in any way? This magazine looked very similar to Times Magazine it did not surprise me in anyway, I came to view this magazine as a French version of time magazine based from the layout and stories covered in the pages. 5.What can you tell me about the general layout of the periodical? The magazine itself deals with a lot of different topics, such as current events in France, the economy, Society in general.

6.Are there advertisements in this periodical? For what? Tell me specifically about ONE of the ads. I can say that this magazine appeals to wealthy French people ,

the opening first pages have pictures of expensive rolex watches and expensive spirits such as Glennfidich which advertises to men as the Lespirit pionner, suggesting that this drink is made for men who are pionners. There are a lot of advertisments for expensive colognes such as with celebrities on the covers, advertisments for watches

7.Can you make any comparisons between the photos used in this magazine and the photos used in an equivalent American version of this periodical? The photos are almost the same. Most of them are captivating the advertisments are also similar. 8.Which article did you choose? 9.Tell me what you understood about the article. The article was talking about Seoul in Korea, it is referred to as un petit shanghai. Seoul is becoming a very rapid city with huge shopping malls, metro lines, and how is currently populated with over 11 million people. The article talked about how Seoul will make its name a big city just like New york in Asia. 10. List at least 20 French words that you knew the meaning of because they either looked like English or Spanish, etc. or you could guess at them.

Did reading this article boost your confidence in French or not? Some of the word choice in the article confused me but as I kept reading I could pick up bits and pieces of what was going on.

What did you like best about this activity? I liked this activity because I have never before read a French magazine

13. What were the major drawbacks or obstacles to this activity? Do you think youll read this newspaper or magazine again? Why or why not? Some major drawbacks were not being able to understand the words that were in that magazine I would often skip words then find words that I knew and from that I was able to put the puzzle together. I will definitely read this magazine more often it is very interesting.
