First up was 18 year old DJ and producer, Samuel Graham aka 'Afrowolf' who, after posting multiple tracks on youtube has built up presence online posting on internet forums, performed live at a general public arena for the first time. As it was his birthday, he payed a homage to his last 18 years, by mixing tracks that he grew of with his production of 8 bit effects. After a slightly nervous introduction (first public live show and all!) he opened his set confidently with a 8 bit remix of the Red Dwarf theme tune. He continued the mix with his pumping NES era beats, overlaying a rap samples and other tracks from his earlier days. Needs to get his own confidence up playing in front of the general public but he is definiently one to look out for if he continues to built up his production and mixing skill the way he has so far.

Next was Edie from Edie and The Vegabonds with his acoustic indie folk sound. Confidently palying his rather cheery set as an artist who has clearly had some experience behind him, if you want some relaxing joy in your day check him out.

Next up was Toby Connor former frontman of The Paris Riots, he is now working on a solo project, which he performed at the launch. His haunting notes filled the Wheelbarrow and he certainly has a refined style but also remains raw, belting out his songs with a voice that takes your breath away and leaves a mark. Towards the end of the set he got his drummer up to play with him a upbeat tracks with lyrics that had a more optimistic poetry to them like a summer love story. Look out for Toby's first solo album to be released in early 2013.

Finally cheeky, energetic, Mancunian quartet The Gramatones got on stage and stole the shows. They had a fantastic connection with the audience, producing their catchy pop/rock while joking with their fans, which there appeared to be a fair few. All three guitarists joined in with the vocals and performed as a tight group with their distinct style, similar to pace of Johnny Foreigner mixed with the sound and harmonies of Biffy Clyro. They are sure to go on to great things as a band who just seem to gel and get on.

Crimson kisses Several near misses, Divine wine released. The illusionist thoughts pass through the mind Faster than the serpents venom. Self-termination is on your mind, You see no reason to carry on, To this world you are blind. You think you see a monster In the mirror everyday, Just another illusion, Don't give up, Don't give in to seclusion. The damage you do is so severe You must stop, you must persevere. With kisses so fine, I feel your skin brush on mine, The scars show upon us all, With devastation blows, We shall all fall. For someone who used to be so strong, I've seen you turn to the blade and do wrong. When problems arise, I see tears pour from your eyes, the scars won't heal, Because you lost all ability to feel. The stitching keeps coming undone, The lines run so deep Because of the consequences of a promise You swore to keep. You think the symmetry of the scars will aline, But losing you... Would break this heart of mine, They say a picture can paint a thousand words But scars can tell a story of pain and sorrow. It's not a path to follow Cuz when it gets dark Its hard to find the light, These cuts are now a reminder of the past, But it's the future we're heading for, Let these scars bare forever more. Things aren't what they used to be I want you to hold to me and leave this memory.

Matthew Oates I enjoy experimenting with photography, I like seeing how changing different inputs on the process of taking the picture affect the outcome. Somthing I love about photography is how it can capture the environment I'm in, I like peacefull places and images, light is a great way to portray it

Alastair enjoys a night of covers from The Retrobates Duo Holly Hawthorn and Lawrence Penfold...

The first time I saw The Retrobates play was with the full band and was very impressed by the technical skill of the musicians and the powerful vocal talent of Holly. This time however the audience at The Gray Horse in Kingston was treated to the duo of Holly and lead guitarist Lawrence Penfold. The event was a far more acoustic affair which allowed the power of Holly's voice resonate in the room and time for Lawrence to let rip on solos on his guitar. Lawrence and Holly are clearly people who loves music and their craft, Lawance making playing his instrument and complicated riffs appear effortless, and Holly with such a honed soul piercing voice that reaches a wide range. The duo played a nearly two hour set of covers ranging from Terry Reid's 'Seed of Memory' to a fantastic version of 'Feelin Good', Fleetwood Mac's 'Need Your Love So Bad' and The Zutons 'Valerie'. If you get the chance to see The Retrobates live in any copasity do it, I guarantee you will enjoy it!

The Way It Ends guitarist Reece Beasley reviews the Evile gig.

At first thoughts they looked very much like a gimmick, With all the men wearing some sort of armour and Female Vocalist Emily Ovenden looking a bit like a character from Skyrim. But after launching into their set it became clear they was a serious and heavy band. The band sounded very strong although their set sounded like one long song. By the end of the set they only slightly one me over as a fan but if you are in to Power Metal and Female Vocals in metal check them out

The Swedish Heavy Metal band, at first sight you can see this band is serious adopting a Iron Maiden with Judas Priest kind of look and it is easy to tell their influences. These guys sound like they have stepped rite out of the whole New wave of British heavy metal scene from the 70s. take Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and Saxon and you will get Wolf. Overall they sounded strong all night the highlight song for me was Voodoo we even got a singing lesson about singing from the balls this is defiantly a band to check Krazed Page 13 out!

Matt, Ol, Ben and Joel the Huddersfield are a thrash outfit who have not failed to deliver on any of their albums, from their 2007 debut Enter the Grave to 2011's Five Serpents Teeth there has always been something special about this band. But like many great bands there is always a tragic event in between and with Evile it was the loss of their bass player in 2009 Mike Alexander and tonight he was defiantly there in spirit. The band launched into the banger Enter The Grave which got the crowd going with a huge mosh pit. The band also played Origin of Oblivion which they have never played up until this tour the song defiantly got a great reception from the crowd. This band is unforgettable all the members have great stage presence. The set-list was built up of songs mainly from Five Serpents Teeth which isn't a bad thing as the songs are great live but I would have liked to have seen more Enter The Grave and Infected Nations material. Highlight songs: Thrasher, Origin Oblivion, Metamorphosis and Schizophrenia The set-list: Hundred Wrathful Deities (Intro) 1) Enter the Grave 2) Cult 3) In Dreams of Terror 4) Centurion 5) Man Against Machine 6) Metamorphosis 7) In Memoriam 8) Thrasher 9) Eternal Empire 10) Origin of Oblivion 11) Five Serpent's Teeth 12) Infected Nation Encore: 13) Schizophrenia

Krazed Reviews
Krazed 's Gareth Lee and Matthew Watkins review a night of Metal at the Trivium gig at Shepherds Bush Empire. Matthew reviews the supporting acts...
It's a cold, wet night, but the 2000 odd Metal fans waiting in line were never going to have their spirits dampened. Maybe that's because they are lining up to see one of the fastest rising bands of the 21st century, Trivium. Also on the bill are San Diego Metallers As I Lay Dying, German Metalcore band Caliban, and Texan Metalcore maniacs Upon A Burning Body, who are a fast rising live act in their own right. Once inside we are forced to wait past the start time, and the crowd begins to get restless. Various chants rise from the now impatient Metalheads inside the Empire, who are by now fed up with the music over the PA system. A loud cheer goes up as Trivium's Matt Heafy grabs a mic, but the cheer is short-lived as he explains the reason for the delay - The trailer carrying Caliban and Upon A Burning Body's gear has broken down, and as a result Caliban are forced to cancel their set. Caliban front-man Andreas Drner arrives on stage to say how "pissed" they are that they can't perform on this night, and how this was "an important date for us in London". Matt Heafy urges the crowd to check Caliban's website and music as he labels the German veterans as an awesome, inspirational band.

Upon A Burning Body make an impression straight away, as they enter the stage suited from head to toe as if they were attending a formal dinner rather than about to destroy this packed out venue. They have been loaned instruments by Trivium and As I Lay Dying (one questions why Caliban were not afforded this luxury?), and it is indeed show time as they "get this party started". At every possible moment, frontman Danny Leal whips up the already frenzied crowd, enticing them to headbang and jump around, but this crowd really doesn't need a second invitation, proving how exciting and energetic UABB already are on the live scene. Set closer Intermission leads to Leal asking for the crowd to make their way forward and shake his hand, prompting a mass crowd surf of at least two dozen people, and the number of event stewards more than doubles to keep order.

Shortly after As I Lay Dying hit the stage and fly into Condemned, from the band's successful 2010 release The Powerless Rise. They have a tough act to follow, and do their very best to keep the momentum going, their stage presence accentuated by front-man Tim Lambesis's muscular frame and constant fist pumping. His powerful growling voice drives the set through crowd pleasing Nothing Left, helped along by Josh Gilbert's contrasting clean melodic vocals. New songs Cauterize and A Greater Foundation from September's release Awakened are greeted with as much adoration as the more classic, and tonight's set closer, Sounds Of Truth. A solid performance, if nothing spectacular (a much used criticism of the band) from the Californian quintet. The crowd have been going crazy all night, not just in anticipation of headline act Trivium, but because they have witnessed two very strong performances from rising band Upon A Burning Body, and the more experienced As I Lay Dying.

Garth Lee reviews their performance at the Shepherds Bush Empire 22nd October
The atmosphere is to the high heavens, As I Lay Dying have just left the stage, the fans are living on the adrenaline rush and beer. The bar is packed like light to flies, and the pits below the stands start to chant flies, TRIVIUM, TRIVIUM! Dead on 9:30 the venue darkens and the sweet melody of Capsizing the Sea mesmerises the room, seconds later four figures emerge onto the stage in the darkness. All of a sudden the stage erupts and a gut wrenching growl of IN WAVES! annihilates the audience. The pits circle like a crocodile in a death roll, and prisms of light beam down over the fans. The anguish is relieved when Matt Healy utters the last words Pulling everyone down with me the crowd let out and almighty roar, and shortly after, Mr Healy addresses the audience, welcoming us to the event and announcing the next track is from a previous album, the track being Like Light To Flies. The riffs played throughout were of technical brilliance, and the mix of clean vocals and growls was astonishingly accurate. Not a duff note was played and the sound crew did their job to perfection. Just before the track Watch the World Burn we were informed a music video was going to be made, and Trivium wanted us, the audience, to be in it! After Watch the World Burn we were taken back to where it all began, with Ember to Inferno. The crowd arose from their seats as Matt Healy announced their ages when Trivium started out here in the UK were 17 to 19! And proudly telling us we made Trivium! Tensions and moral were high and the heat generated from the venue could engulf the liveliest of souls. The adoring crowd urged Trivium to play Built to Fall, and the demands were met sparking cheers. After Built to Fall, the band retreated to the back of the stage to quench their thirst next to the mammoth drum on the adrenaline rush and beer. The bar is packed like light to flies, and the pits below the stands kit of Nick Augusto. Returning to the mic, Mr Healy entices the crowd, saying This hasnt been played in London before! Thestart to chant TRIVIUM, TRIVIUM! crowd raised hands and scream! Mouth to the mic, Healy says Torn Between Scylla and Charibolis igniting a frenzy in the crowd, with chaos in the pits as the opening riff kicks in and all through the song! By the end of the song, the fans are looking tired and exhausted, though the next song, Throes of Perdiction, is the last of Triviums set and once again, the venue comes to life, with emotions running high and the every sings along to be plunged into darkness. Leaving This World Behind and lights fade in on the stage as the band comes together to take the final bow of the UK In Waves tour before they head off to Europe. It was a shame for this lively night to come to an end. GROW WITH... First Gig...

The Way It Ends

The Way It Ends played their first gig, at the Tooting Hub fundraiser, in front of young people who us the Hub and their families. The trio played previews of their first two tracks and a cover of 'Raining Blood' by Slayer. The crowd were not a metal audience and the other acts at the event were spoken word, rap and cheoreopraphed dance acts. Still the audience loved it and the band got many offers for collaborations from other artists there. We are still writing producing our tracks and with the recording studio almost complete, we hope to have a couple of mastered tracks released early next year. We are still looking for a vocalist or finding a way to get vocals onto our tracks.
