OBJECTIVES

The purpose of this assignment was to study the historic building chosen in Kuala
Lumpur which is Central Market, a centre for culture, arts and crafts. The surveyors were
required to conduct a survey on the study case and its boundary site. The information was
obtained from various means and sources, include site visiting and data collecting.
It is aimed to achieve the following objectives at the end of the assignment:

- To conduct a thorough research on the background and history of the selected historic
building.

- To explore the values and elements of importance of the building studied in respect of
conserving and maintaining of the building.

- To study the architectural design, structures and other disciplines in design on top of the
physical condition of the building

- To identify and analyse the method used in conserving the building as well as the idea of
conservation incorporated.

- To identify the individual or parties involved in the conservation of the building and their
efforts towards achieving the aspiration.

- To identify as well as generate a comprehensive understanding of the problems and issues


arising during the course of keeping or conserving the historical building.

- To analyse the selected building in terms of its construction and conservation chronology.
