New board elected

Jason makes a clean sweep during the fall clean up Our Annual General Meeting was held December 12. A new board was duly elected, and a list of their names and positions can be found at the back of this newsletter. Many thanks to the outgoing board for all their hard work.

Security patrol opportunity

You may have seen members of the security committee walking throughout the coop in fluorescent yellow vests and bright flashlights. The security committee would like to increase these patrols and are inviting new members to participate. Flexible hours are available. Contact hwfsecurity@hotmail.com or drop a note off at the office attention: security committee for more details. The email is checked Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and the office mail once weekly.

Fall clean up
A rainy fall clean-up was nonetheless successful as volunteers braved the rain November 17th and 18th to rake up leaves, sweep pathways, and clear garden bends of debris before the frost set in. The landscaping committee is very grateful to everyone who came out to lend a hand despite the miserable weather.

Recycling & yard waste information

As many of us find ourselves raking leaves and clearing out gardens for the winter, or recycling all that wrapping paper after the holidays, we might find the blue recycling bins or the green food/yard waste bins are full. To help plan, its handy to know the Citys recycling and organic waste pickup schedule.

Welcome!
A warm welcome to our newest members: Ericka and Andrew (A6); Melissa and Andrew and

Recycling is picked up approximately once a week. In December recycling pickups include the 20 and 31. In January the 8, 15, 22, and 29 (all Tuesdays) will be recycling pickup days. The green food/ yard waste bins are picked up every second week. For now that means the 31 of December and the 15 and 29 of January. If your green bins are full, you can place leaves in a standard garbage can or in biodegradable paper bags. Leaves set out in plastic bags will not be picked up. Note that leaf cans and paper bags may not be picked up at the same time as your green bin/ yard trimmings cart. To find the most up-to-date schedules for future months, visit the City of Vancouvers website (Vancouver.ca) and click on Home, Property and Development. From there, click on Waste Disposal and Recycling in the left-hand menu and then Garbage and Recycling Schedule and Supplies. Find our neighbourhood (The North Yellow Zone) to view the calendar.

by a junk removal service, or donated to a thrift store. Some thrift stores or charities may even arrange for a pick up. Please be a considerate co-op member and dont make your neighbours pay to remove your unwanted household items.

Breakfast with Santa

The co-op kids were thrilled to meet Mr. and Mrs. Claus at the annual Breakfast with Santa December 15. Hopeton cooked pancakes, sausages, and eggs (do we ever give him a day off the grill?) which were then served up by fabulous volunteers. Mr. Claus handed out presents, which were eagerly received, and Mrs. Claus kindly read aloud an illustrated version of that well-loved poem, Twas The Night Before Christmas. Thanks to the social committee for organizing the event, and arranging a visit from the man in the red suit himself. We didnt know you had that kind of pull!

A word about dumping

Please note that you are responsible for removing unwanted large appliances and old furniture from your unit the city does not pick up these items, and they are not to be left on the curb. If these items are not disposed of responsibly, the co-op must pay to have them removed. Unwanted furniture and other large items can be taken to the city dump, removed
