VENTANA VISTA ANNOUNCES

4th Annual Love of Reading March 4 8, 2013

Its almost time for our school-wide reading celebration! Some events, such as our Reading Challenge, will last all month and some events will be held during the week of March 4 8. Our big finale, which includes family fun at our now-famous workshops, will be the evening of Friday, March 8. The Book Exchange will once again be part of our celebration. Students are now able to bring in their own books and receive Book Bucks that can be traded for books brought in by others on the evening of March 8. Students can bring as many books as they wish, but the maximum number of tickets is 5. Extra books will be given to Make Way for Books, a local early literacy program. This years workshops are a blend of new and old. We are looking forward to our favorites . . . the American Girl workshop, Green Eggs and Ham, and Cooking with Star Wars, just to name a few. Among the new choices will be Puppet

Playhouse, Jungle Drums and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Something for everyone! Each student will be able to register for 2 of the 11 featured workshops. Reservations are made on a first-come firstserved basis. The link to the Love of Reading webpage will be available on Friday, February 15, on the Ventana Vista webpage. If your first choices are not available, you will be directed to workshops that still have openings. Activities will also be available on March 8 that do not require reservations. A technology demonstration in the computer lab will give you the opportunity to meet Ginger Hunt, our Curriculum Technology Integrator, and Camp-Read-A-Lot will allow you and your young campers to sit by our faux fire and read under the stars. Spotlight Readers make a return this year and we hope to have a Bens Bells table set up as part of our continuing effort to teach kindness to all of our students. Just as before, students must attend the evening program on March 8 with an adult. If you are attending with pre-school children, only your school-age child will have a reservation. Sonoran Hotdogs and drinks will be available. This evening is made possible by our wonderful and generous FFO and by the staff and parent committee members who have planned the celebration. Mark your calendars for these essential dates:
