II. ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT AND SCOPE


Under the administrative supervision of the IOM Nairobi office and the day-to-day directives of the Nairobi-based Canadian Orientation Abroad Global Project Manager, the Canadian Orientation Abroad facilitator will be responsible for the following functions:

III. RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES


1. Conduct Pre-departure orientation (Cultural Orientation) for Canada-bound refugees and humanitarian entrants both within Nairobi as well as throughout the region. 2. Write reports (field, quarter and annual), gathering statistics and maintaining records. 3. Consolidate Canadian Orientation Abroad Monthly summary of courses for classes trained in East and Central Africa to the Canadian Orientation Abroad Project Manager. 4. Submit Canadian Orientation Abroad Monthly summary of courses to Admin/Finance and Public Information Departments. 5. Coordinate Cultural Orientation missions with implementing partners. 6. Write lesson plans in accordance with Cultural Orientation Africa and Canadian Orientation Abroad curriculum objectives. 7. Participate in and contribute to teacher trainings and staff development seminars.

8. Develop teaching materials, visual-aids, and bulletin boards which support the objectives of the Cultural Orientation and Canadian Orientation Abroad curriculum. 9. Identify and register all refugees eligible for Canadian Orientation Abroad. 10. Coordinate scheduling of medical appointments and Cultural Orientation appointments with the IOM Medical and Operation Departments. 11. Write and submit reports following TDY missions out of Nairobi. 12. Maintain Canadian Orientation Abroad files. 13. Maintain inventories of all instructional supplies and order materials in direct consultation with the Canadian Orientation Abroad project manager on a quarterly basis. 14. Engaging in self-directed study for professional development, including reading resettlement updates, language-tutorials, attending Cultural Orientation related workshops or seminars. 15. Any other duties to be assigned.

V. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE


1. A Bachelors Degree in Education, Social Sciences and/or related field with working experience in education/training. 2. Minimum of 6 years of teaching experience 3. Experience working in cross-cultural settings 4. US/Australia/Canada living, studying or work experience an advantage 5. Extensive experience working with various groups of migrants (especially refugees). 6. An understanding of the Government of Canadas policies and programmes in relation to refugees and/or refugee resettlement. 7. A full appreciation and understanding of post-arrival integration issues and challenges and a demonstrated ability to work effectively with a variety of clients and stakeholders. 8. Solid computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office Packages (Office, excel, Power point, outlook) internet and E-mail 9. Ability to maintain statistics and write lesson plans
