Course Description
Computational Photography is an emerging new eld created by the convergence of computer graphics, computer vision and photography. Its role is to overcome the limitations of the traditional camera by using computational techniques to produce a richer, more vivid, perhaps more perceptually meaningful representation of our visual world. The aim of this course is to study ways in which samples from the real world (images and video) can be used to generate compelling computer graphics imagery. We will learn how to acquire, represent, and render scenes from digitized photographs. Several popular imagebased algorithms will be presented, with an emphasis on using these techniques to build practical systems. This hands-on emphasis will be reected in the programming assignments, in which students will have the opportunity to acquire their own images of indoor and outdoor scenes and develop the image analysis and synthesis tools needed to render and view the scenes on the computer.

Prerequisites:
Programming experience and familiarity with linear algebra and calculus is assumed. Some background in computer graphics, computer vision, or image processing is helpful.

Midterm Exams
Students will be allowed to make up for exam they miss due to illness. Students must present a note from the clinic or hospital, dated either previous to or the day of the exam being oered. The note must state that the student was ill at the time of the exam being oered. The makeup exam must be scheduled with Prof. Hua by email, and will be 7-10 days after the original date of the exam missed. In general, an oral make-up exam will be given, which is generally harder than the written exam due to the nature of the oral exam.

Regrade Policy
To request a regrade on any homework, quiz, or exam, do not make any alterations to your returned exam. On a separate sheet dene precisely your specic request regarding the particular part of the particular problem. Sign and date the request for the regrade underneath the statement, I have made no additions or alterations to my homework/quiz/exam after it was returned to me. Return the homework/quiz/exam and the statement requesting the regrade to the instructor within 7 days of receiving the graded homework/quiz/exam.

Homework
No late homework will be accepted. It is ok to discuss your approach to solving the problems with friends, but the write-up of the solution you hand in must be your own. Be careful not to plagiarize! Plagiarism will be severely punished and will be led.

Academic Dishonesty and Policies on Cheating

In order to prevent cheating, we ask that you keep your eyes on your sheet at all times during tests. Looking around is forbidden. Electronic devices (e.g., calculators, cell phones, PDAs, iPods) are strictly forbidden during quizzes and exams unless further notice. Working on an exam/quiz either before or after the ocial time is considered cheating. The exams/quiz of any student who is caught writing after time is up or before the exam begins will receive a grade of zero, and this will be reported to the chairman of CSIE department, as well as the school. We keep an electronic copy of all graded exams in order to compare them with any exam brought in for a grade revision. Any student who alters his/her exam post grading and asks for a grade revision will be caught and will suer severe disciplinary actions. (Expulsion from the University is possible.)
