First Asia Pacific Conference of
Workability International-Asia
“Championing people with
disabilities' (PWDs) right to work
world-wide” is the slogan of
Workability International, the
world's largest representational
body for providers of work and
employment services to PWDs.
More than two million PWDs are engaged in work
programs delivered by its member organizations in
36 countries. We believe that PWDs must have
legal rights to equal opportunities and non-
discrimination in all aspects of their lives,
especially in the world of work. To put this on the
ground, Workability International works in
partnership with a range of international bodies
and authorities, to break down the barriers
which prevent PWDs from participating in the
workforce and therefore, maximizing their
social and economic independence.
As a member of this organization, Tahanang
Walang Hagdanan was tasked to organize the

International-Asia on April 22, 2009. Twenty
participants from Japan and Fifteen from other
member countries are attending the conference,
a total of 35 delegates. Aside from them, Stake-
holders from the Philippines including private
companies, non-government organizations and
government agencies are invited to join. The last
conference of which was held at Sapporo,
Japan where 59 countries participated last year
including the Philippines which was attended by
Ms. Joy. Garcia from TWH, Johnny Lantion of
NFCWDP and Peter Hamerlee of CBM.
We wish to invite more members to have a stronger
alliance to bring on board every Filipino disabled
especially in the world of work and employment.

Thirty-six years of serving a greater
number of PWDs in the Philippines is
indeed an accomplishment for TWH!
We continue to glorify and praise God
in thanksgiving for His Divine Providence
from TWH establishment to this very day.
This great mission started with the Divine
calling of Sr. Valeriana Baerts, ICM. TWH
Founder and Chairperson of the Board
who braved all odds in obedience to
God. We are also grateful for the com-
mitted people who continue to be
instruments in accomplishing His works..
Our Foundation Day on February 21,

One of the programs of Tahanang
Walang Hagdanan is the mobility aid
assistance, that is providing wheelchair
and other mobility aid such as cane,
crutches, walker, prosthesis, leg braces,
etc. to indigent persons with mobility
impairment. We have three
(3) sourcesof this program
Gulong Sa Pagsulong - one of the
most sought welfare services of Tahanang
Walang Hagdanan, since it started last
1994. Many avail of this service
referred through our Community Based
Rehabilitation Program and referred by the
office of the Department of Social
Welfare and Development, other NGOs,
Government Offices, hospitals and
religious organizations. Most of the
beneficiaries of this program avail
customized wheelchair and other
assistive devices produced by Tahanang
Walang Hagdanan. Beneficiaries were
required to contribute some counterpart
in any amount they could share for we
want them to be responsible of their needs
and do away with the “dole out” system.

the President
In the thirty-six years since the
establishment of Tahanang Walang
Hagdanan, Inc. we have achieved
dramatic success. This has earned
Tahanang Walang Hagdanan the
respect of its partners and stakeholders.
For this, TWH is recognized throughout
Asia as a center of excellence and is
used as a training facility by the disabled
not only from other provinces but also
other countries of the region.
We have had conducted training
programs for wheelchair manufac-
turing for the Disabled group from
Laos and Palau. Recently, we had
conducted management training and
workshop operations to JICA
trainees from Costa Rica.
TWH is known to provide
employment to persons with
disability and has become a model
in Asia Pacific in terms of workshop
set up and establishment.
Tahanang Walang Hagdanan's
continuous marketing effort has
gained favorable result such as
establishment of two outlets for
its products and services. Apart
from its two outlets, TWH is also a
regular supplier of the National
Book Store chain, Cash and Carry
Supermarket and Abenson's
Home Plus. With our mission to
provide employment to persons
with disability, we continue to
develop quality products and
increase our market outlets.
New challenges lie ahead. With

Dancing Competition
December 6, 2008 was a very

Competition, which was entitled:
STEPS for a BRIGHT FUTURE
Part II. It was held in SM City North

wheelchair, 5 male and 9 female paired

were chosen for the male category
