MUSLIM TOWN (VLOG) Script: AUDIO [VO] Quiapo is well known across the country as a prime religious hub.

But apart from being home to the historic Quiapo Church, also found here is the largest Muslim community in Manila. The Muslim Town, found near the Quezon Boulevard, seems to be an entirely different world perched right in the middle of Quiapo. [VO] The Muslim community was the idea of former Imelda Marcos. It was built to impress Libyan President Muammar Khadafya who was supposed to come for a visit in mid-1970s. 0:24-0:51 (Preacher 1) Ano ito 1975, 76. King Fahad. Pero ito, under the government pa ito. 1:35-1:50 (Preacher 1) 75 ito itinayo, after the Martial Law. Yung Organization for Islamic Conference. [VO] Since its creation during the Marcos era, the Quiapo Muslim Town continues to expand and be a key part of the Quiapo locality. So, ang akala nila, masama. Hanggang naging mayaman na. 5:49-6:07 (Muslim citizen) Sa latest survey ng, I think SWS yata yung nagsurvey around five provinces and Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao I think umabot kami ng eight million.

Muslim people and their activities

10:13-10:19 (Muslim citizen) Composed kasi dito, eh. May mga Maguindanao din dito. Pero majority dito, Maranao. COMMERCE The resilience of our Muslim brothers is one to be admired. Leaving their homes in Mindanao and settling in an unfamiliar territory was no easy feat, but they managed to pull through it through venturing into business. [VO] Everywhere you look inside the Muslim Town, the streets are packed with stores selling products not found in other parts of Quiapo from traditional Islamic clothing, to Halal produce and dishes, to decorative objects with Moro and Maranao designs. The thriving commerce within the town only confirms the Muslim peoples reputation as some of the most skilled entrpreneurs in the country. Eighty percent nitong kuwan [Muslim Town] owned by the Muslim. RELIGION Perhaps the greatest attraction inside Mosque the Muslim Town is the Mosque del Globo del Oro, the largest gilded mosque in Manila. Another thing about the Muslim people is People praying their deep commitment to their religion. It is fascinating how almost every single person in the town is well-versed about

Islam, able to answer every possible question from non-Muslim visitors or spectators about their faith. Unang-una, ang mga Muslim, we have a five times a day prayer. Syempre, mga turo ng propeta. Yung mga unang panahon, sila prophet Jesus, lahat sila. So, ang ano rito, yung pagsimba. MUSLIM CONVERT [VO] During our visit, we met Mukhlis, born into a Christian family but decided to become a Muslim. He converted in 2010. 4:00-4:04 (Muslim convert) Ano pong pangalan nila, Kuya? [VO] Nearly three years into his new faith, Mukhlis is already deeply immersed in the teachings of Islam, anther proof of the Muslims profound engagement in their religion. (First part of Muslim convert interview) INTERACTION WITH NON-MUSLIMS [VO] The Muslim people are well aware of their reputation in the eyes of others who do not belong to their group. Fortunately, their life here in Quiapo is much more peaceful that those in the southern regions. They say that that they have managed to build a harmonious relationship with their Christian neighbors.

Makikita mo po yung Islam religion is a religion of peace, harmony, ang goodwill. DI ba? In contrast to oppressions, aggressions, and terrorism. Because we are not allowed to force anybody to embrace Islam. [Vo] Besides differing faiths, the people of the Quiapo Muslim Town are not much different from the rest of us. Like everyone else, they strive for a life of peace and harmony, putting faith above all.
