Concept Description: The clients main requests for a new logotype were that it feature the silhouette of the state of Michigan, utilize bright colors and be able to be used in one- and multicolor variations. I created three possible logotypes that met the clients requirements, and based upon feedback from peers after posting those mockups on Scribd, I decided to work with the first design I created. I wanted to find a way to convey that MPHTC is a public health institution, so I pulled in elements of NACCHOs logotype created as a standard to represent Public Health. (http://www.naccho.org/advocacy/phlogo/ for NACCHOs style guide) The logotype I created features the Public Health shield and stylized plus sign from NACCHOs logotype placed in the center of the Michigan state silhouette. This is intended to represent MPHTCs mission of training those who protect and promote the health and quality of life in Michigans communities, which are the heart and lifeblood of the state. NACCHO is trying to spread the use of their logo as a standard to represent public health departments much like the outline of a badge has come to represent American police departments. Including the shape in MPHTCs logotype will hopefully further their efforts. The typeface used for the logotype, Century Gothic, is a simple sans-serif font that is easily legible, but also provides a sense of openness and positivity. The sample logotype is shown using a bright color palette with a triadic harmony, but examples shown in the style guide demonstrate that it is equally suitable for use in monotone.
