LOST IN DISCOVERY
lost in discovery
Such a fitting title , youll see. This is a story of self discovery and challenging of fears, through the eyes of a fragile, elusive and entirely confused girl leading a monotonous life in blissful ignorance. youre welcome.
Now while on my weekly visit to Stadsbiblioteket in Stockholm I randomly stumbled upon some very interesting and extremely befitting convenient material. These findings, this goldmine of discoveries that I came upon came at this very opportune moment was very rewarding in this time of despair and self-realization for me. You see, these findings of mine surprisingly enough coincide extremely well with an assignment of mine, a creative task if you will, that Im currently working on. How amazingly appropriate and benefitting but incredibly random is that?!? And only by chance. WOW. These peculiar findings turned out to be scrambles of what looks to be a Japanese(?) advertising campaign geared towards eliminating ones fears or something, from the publicly traded company, ALLISEEISDOLLARSIGNS INC. The main concept of this campaign seems to revolve around some random chick, lost and probably on a quest to find her purpose in life and conquer her many fears. As I leaf through the adverts of the campaign and see her fail in her continuous attempts to overcome many of her fears I cant help but to sympathize with this poor soul and her amazing resilience or lack thereof during her constant demise trough out the campaign. But dont fret she does sure looks like a young, bright and brave young lady. Like quite the soldier with a heart of gold, an armor of both steel and iron, charming as hell, as funny as she is creative with an imagination that runs as deep if not deeper than the ocean outside your window, Im sure. She may be naive at times and in a constant state of confusion and sure, she may be PAINFULLY awkward at times, so much that at times people would think she is rude BUT she does seem like an awesomely cool, kick ass chick. I would assume, its not like Im her, I mean know her, hahahhahah.. hah, no. Silly! Like she seems like exceptionally, crazily cool and like always listens to TLC and Montell Jordan and I like wish I was her but no,
I mean if she would walk by me I would totally be like; -WOW, THATS A BAD ASS CHICK! But again, Im not her. Back to the overall campaign and the approach they took with it, which I think speaks more to the impulsive nature in us human beings and the sentimental tune of our hearts rather than the LOGOS QUHBN, the logical and reasonable WOKRIKINGs OF THE ever so filled mind of ours (blhhh). The ad campaign creates pathos, the curiosity in us people, like we see in this campaign where it depicts this chicks journey and experiences trough her own struggles and discovering different cultures, in real time. HOPE, another thing exhibited in the ads, this same brave, hopeless chick facing and defeating all of her fears, just brings hope. It evokes a spirit of optimism and courage and if you show people of what looked like an impossible case, can be a reality (For real!? no? really?! Wow!!) Yeah, its what we in the advertising industry like to call a hit and run! Home run?!? ...Yeah! Which is a good approach since emotions are what draw reactions and catches peoples attention and it creates strong feelings in folks and it conjures opinions, It brings in the DOLLAZ. CASH MONEY. MULAH. GUAP. The almighty dollar. And, Japan always works, its foreign, different (well, not in Japan) but here! Discouraged, you say!? No, ENCOURAGED, I say! Its all foreign and you cant understand squat. Its glorious, its euphoria. Its an advertising gold mine. Its in japan language, all squiggly and stuff, a random chick, bunch of colors everywhere. People think foreign is cool; they are fascinated by foreign entities and like to be associated with it. They love it. And it shows from their quarterly, financial reports, which showed their sales revenue make a quick 130% rise in their now infamous fear-ridding Yellow-feather Rocks, following the success of this fear-elimination campaign which was later followed by the career-hula hoops, Hula hoop your way to the top. They found their niche, investors rushed to buy stocks, folks rushed to buy the products, employees rushed to make the products and the CEO rushed in to the wall. Literally, he fell into a coma, never to wake up again making the investors concerned and the board panic. Without anybody to manage to helm and save the company and its inventive nature, they eventually went bankrupt and is now a privately owned Spa and health center owned by Wesley Snipes. Located in South Korea it caters towards kpop stars and rich ex-convicts.

huh, fear
Growing up wanting to fear something is not anything intentional but to defeat ones fear is very much a conscious, deliberate decision. Remember, only a very small percentage of the things you fear are actually genuine concerns. When you actively engage your mind in fear you cannot move forward with the things you want to do in life. Youre stuck, like I was and still partially am. You see, what I was experiencing as life, was surely not. It was a still in actuality, an existence in an imaginary subconscious, disguised as an amazingly tedious life. Until, I (after several years of an extreme case of laziness (on-going struggle) and about 5 keen, very expressive siblings and 2 loud, passionate parents encouraging me) discovered this incredibly simple truth; the future is now. Yeah. I know, cheesy but a total Oprah AHA-moment and incredibly eye-opening for me. I understand the grip fear can have on a person more than most, it can prevent you from opportunities and realizing dreams of yours. Its like a tightly wrapped blanket, comforting you during cold nights but also constricting you in reaching for the remote to the TV or taking a sip of your drink a tired evening. The solution, you say?? A snuggie. NO. That was a metaphor, dont take it so literally. Damn. What I am saying is, there is no freedom in pursuing life to the degree you want when fear leaves no time or place to engage in that pursuit. Ive found through my endless, traumatic, adventure of hilarity, anxiety and unadulterated terror, that the way to conquer ones fear is to bravely blaze through the gates of the castle full of constrictions, fears and uncertainties youve built up all along and realize your freedom. No more to it. So to quote one big, sports aimed multinational corporation, Just do it! Seriously. No, SERIOUSLY. I am PRIME example of the saying, If I can do it, ANYBODY can. So dont sweat, dont fret. Self-doubt is the worst fear of all.
