Incorporate couture
Want to feel like a celebrity on your wedding day? Make the aisle your very own red carpet
by incorporating one of these couture trends into your look. From black details to amazing
embellishments, these over-the-top styles are sure to excite the inner diva in every bride.
Touch of Black
On the runway: Dark details are the perfect way to add
excitement to a basic white wedding gown. Black waistbands are
simple yet stunning on every silhouette, a graphic floral hem can be
quite flirty and charcoal-colored blooms give a lace gown some
serious edge.
Down the aisle: These accents may be rock-and-roll-inspired, but
don’t even think about going gothic. This means forget the smoky
eye and focus on a makeup palette full of soft pinks to keep your
look elegant and fresh.
Over-the-Top Beading
On the runway: Nothing says “glamour” like head-to-toe
embellishment. We’re especially enamored with tiers of cascading
crystals, dazzling sequined dresses and intricately beaded designs
that made their show-stopping debut this season.
Down the aisle: The key to this alluring trend is keeping

detail. Petite and pristine or

headlines. These girly

Top catering trends
Want an unforgettable reception?
Here’s a little secret: It’s all about the food.
1. Play With Color
Chefs can play with food to match your signature hues. Like red and green? One
caterer filled shot glasses layered with edamame (green) and lobster trifle (red).
4. Go Green
Serve organic mixed green salads or free-range chicken with sides of organic
string beans. Drink organic tequilas and vodkas or even biodynamic wines.
26 Weddings 2009.
6. Get Global Goods
Exotic ingredients like wasabi salt, Middle Eastern herbs and
tahini sauces add a zing or richness to a dish. People won’t recall
what flowers you had, but they’ll remember the food.
8. Try a Taste
Tasting menus are showing up at black-tie weddings. Serve
five to seven mini courses – even pair a different wine with each
course. Best for foodie couples willing to sacrifice time on the
dance floor.

Registry splurges
Don’t shy away from those high-ticket items because you
think no one will buy them or you’ll never break them out.
Now is the time to upgrade to ensure that you have
everything you need for those special occasions (like
hosting Thanksgiving dinner a few years down the
road). So get that scanner ready for these five super-
fine splurges.
2. Fine Dining
Many shy away from fine dinnerware, thinking that
usage once or twice a year doesn’t make the purchase
worth it. But the truth is that porcelain and bone china
are actually tougher and more durable than common
stoneware. So don’t save china for special occasions only
– work it into everyday dining.
4. Stove-Toppers
You need more from a stockpot than the ability to
boil water – inexpensive pots and pans won’t heat evenly
or properly. Upgrade to stainless (corrosion-resistant)
cookware with aluminum or copper cores (great for heat
conduction), or consider any other copper combination,
anodized aluminum or cast iron.
5. Perk Up
Treat yourselves to the sophistication of a shot at
home. Sleek espresso machines often come with a hefty
price tag, so add one to your wish list and look forward
to brunches and after-dinner aperitifs with happily
caffeinated guests.
