First, make sure to visit the Pokmon Center to heal up from the trek through the forest. The two houses here don't hold anything important, but the Pok Mart does! This is the first city to sell Potions, so make sure to buy a few for the upcoming Gym battle. Trainers won't be able to head east yet, since the kid at the edge of the city will drag them to the Gym if they try to leave. There isn't much else to do right now, so get ready for your first upcoming Gym battle!

Pewter Museum of Science

The Pewter Museum of Science is located on the north side of the city. It hosts a wide range of artifacts and exhibits, with a focus on fossil excavation and space exploration. Admission to the main building is 50 for a child's ticket. The second smaller building is closed to the public, but if Trainers return later and cut past the tree, the lead scientist there will give you the Old Amber; take it to Cinnabar Island, and the scientists there can resurrect an ancient Aerodactyl.

PEWTER CITY POKMON GYM LEADER: BROCK The Rock Solid POKMON TRAINER!

The Pewter Gym focuses on the Rock-type, so Trainers that chose Bulbasaur or Squirtle will be in good shape. Teams with Charmander may have some trouble here, since Fire-types can't do much damage against Rock-types. Trainers with Charmander would be well-advised to bring a Mankey from Route 22 or Butterfree with Confusion, since Fighting-type moves are super-effective against the Rock-type and Brock's Pokmon have poor Special Defenses. Teaching Metal Claw to Charmander can help, but try not to be too dependent on it, Pew ter Gym especially since the Sandshrew that the Gym Trainer has is a Ground type, which is not weak to Fighting-type or Steel-type, and Ground is super-effective against Fire. Bring a few Potions, and enter the first Gym. If possible, try to use special attacks like Bubble, Vine Whip, or Confusion instead of physical attacks, as Brock's Geodude and Onix have very high Defense stats and very low Special Defense stats. 1400 Congratulations, you've just won the Boulder Badge! The badge gives a slight attack boost during battle, and also allows the use of Flash outside of battle (once a Trainer has obtained HM05). Brock also gives out TM39 (Rock Tomb) as a prize. With the first Gym behind them, a Trainer's next destination is Cerulean City to the east. Stock up on Pok Balls and Potions before leaving for Route 3, then it's off to the wilderness again!

Route 3
When the player first leaves Pewter City to head east, one of Oak's aides stops them, and delivers the Running Shoes from Mom. By holding the Route 3 B Button, Trainers can travel quicker than they normally could. While still not as fast as the Bicycle, it's still better than walking. The next point of interest is the Pokmon Center. There's a bald guy in front of the stairs that will offer Trainers a Magikarp for 500. The fish itself isn't a great Water-type choice, since it can only splash around until level 15, but with enough training it will evolve into Gyarados at level 20 (with much better stats and moves) which can help with the upcoming Gym match in Cerulean City. It's a Trainer's choice whether to fork over the money for the fish or not, since they are found almost everywhere with the Old Rod later on. Heal up and head into Mt. Moon.

Mt. Moon
Mt. Moon isn't a very tough cave to get through, especially if a Trainer's team is around level 15 by now. There is also a handful of new cave-dwelling Pokmon for novice Trainers to find. It is advisable to carry ample amounts of supplies such as Repels or Escape Ropes if a Trainer's team is low on health.

When first entering the cave, make a left and grab the TM09 (Bullet Seed) and Parlyz Heal, and defeat the nearby Trainer on the way. Follow the tunnel around and take the closest stairway to the basement floor.

As you pass through B1F, you will notice that the only wild Pokmon here is Paras. This is a good training ground for Pokmon who have a move Paras is weak against, but be aware of its Effect Spore ability, which has a chance of causing a status condition from a physical contact move. When you reach B2F, look out for the Team Rocket grunt here - his presence here means that the criminal gang is up to no good somewhere nearby. Grab the Star Piece from the ledge, and take the stairs back to the first floor.

Trainers [show ] Head south for two more Trainer battles, as well as a Potion, Rare Candy, and Escape Rope. These are all handy items to have - the Escape Rope warps a Trainer back to the cave's entrance in order to heal their team. When fed to a Pokmon, a Rare Candy raises its level by 1. Head north and follow the tunnel around to the west, and take the next set of stairs to head back down to the basement.

A second Team Rocket grunt is standing here, so get ready to battle! Grab the TM46 (Thief) from the rocky ledge, and check the lone boulder for an Ether before returning to the main floor once again.

Follow the tunnel around to the northwest corner of the cave, battling the last two Trainers on this floor along the way (don't miss the Moon Stone sitting in the corner).

Walk north to pick up a Revive, and then follow the winding tunnel clockwise to the west, where another Rocket grunt is muttering about the team stealing fossils for profit. Beyond him is a Super Nerd that claims both the nearby fossils as his own. After beating him, he compromises, offering Trainers a choice between the two ancient relics. Like the Old Amber in Pewter City, there is enough preserved genetic material for the scientists on Cinnabar Island to revive a prehistoric Pokmon. The Dome Fossil becomes a Kabuto, while the Helix Fossil turns into an Omanyte; both become Rock/Water-types. Since it's only possible to obtain one, players will need to trade to receive the other. Head to the southwest, pick up the Antidote, and take the stairs to the exit.

Route 4

Available Pokmon After the trek through Mt. Route 4 Moon, Route 4 will seem like a walk in the park. There are no Trainers here, and only a small patch of grass to the south. There is a pair of move tutors on the northwest hill; the left tutor will offer to teach a Pokmon the move Mega Punch, while the tutor on the right would be happy to teach Mega Kick to a Pokmon. Continue east to pick up TM05 (Roar), then head south and jump the ledge into the tall grass (after doing so, Trainers won't be able to backtrack through Mt. Moon). This is a handy location to train before battling Misty. Once the player's team is around level 20-25, the Cerulean Gym shouldn't be much of a problem. Walk to the east to enter Cerulean City.
