This newspaper article from the day following McKinleys death shows how much of an impact that it had. In a few hours, word of the death spread from New York to the Chicago media. This is the actual text of Leon Czolgoszs questioning during his trial for the murder of President McKinley. It shows the poor condition of Czolgosz as he could barely speak after being severely beaten. His testimony showed he had no remorse, which ultimately led to his death sentence 3. This video of Auburn prison and the execution of Leon Czolgosz show the major event that the nation was waiting for was. It showed me what the ultimate punishment was for the assassin. 4. This digital video disc produced by National Geographic shows the immense behind-the-scenes work involved in preparing for a presidential trip or visit. It goes over a brief history of the agency. This shows that the nation was involved and awaiting this trial.

This article by the History Channel is a brief explanation of the assassination as well as the Czolgosz execution. It was helpful to get general information before I began to search for more in depth information. It is from a reputable source known for their historical research. It in cluded a gallery of primary photos and first hand accounts. 8. McKinley Funeral Procession. 1901. Photographs. Ohio Historical Society, Canton. This series of photographs from the Ohio Historical Society shows the large crowd gathering to see their fallen president at the Canton Court House. The flamboyancy of the procession shows how much the nation cared about this man.

It included photographs and soundtracks from some of the performances. Since the Exposition was widely based off of music, the performers were an important part of the event. 10. Pomerenk, Bill. This picture of the burial site of William McKinley shows that he was very respected. His elaborate grave site tells volumes about him.

This newspaper article from the day following the shooting helps to illustrate the nations reaction. It shows the intensity with which the event occurred and the intense reaction of the public.

This is the actual autopsy report of William McKinley. It was written by P.M. Rixley, the Medical Inspector of the Navy. This document showed me that although the president died from the gunshot, gangrene was the reason he died in the way that he did. 16. This book contains several first-hand accounts by Secret Service agents in the Civil War. The First hand details show the role of the Secret Service before the McKinley assassination.

This web page included the actual trial transcript from the testament of Czolgosz. The page shows that Czolgosz was in very bad condition. The site also includes a lot of pictures of the actual events. The page also tells of his execution at Auburn Prison. 19. United States. It defines those who the Secret Service protects, and the departments powers. This document, hosted by Cornell University Law School, allowed me to see how much larger the protective aspect of the Secret Service has grown since the role was adopted. 20. This history of the USSS published by the agency themselves shows how they think that the assassination affected the agency. This series of 60 years of the Census records of William McKinley shows both his variation of location and career. It shows him grow up through government and life in general.

It shows in their own words what their purpose is. It is a dual mission to protect currency, and high ranking individuals. 24. United States. United States Secret Service. In this plan of the goals for the Secret Service for a six year period, It describes the assassination of William McKinley and its effect on the Secret Service. This is the original wound diagram drawn by one of the operating surgeons showing the location of the gunshot wounds. This showed me the extent of the damage the assassin caused in two shots. 26. This artists replication of the Assassination of William McKinley, hosted by the Library of Congress, shows the terror in the eyes of the crowd as the President is shot. While it might just be a drawing, it accurately displays the horror.
