14 pts 18. Label the 5 states with an X which were created by the Northwest Ordinance

1 pt For this section of the test, answer the question fully and completely in sentence form. Answers should be around a paragraph long (5 sentences). Questions are worth 5 points each. Use the next blank page for your answers as well. Essay Questions 1. How were the issues discussed at the Constitutional Convention related to the issues surrounding the United States before the Civil War? 4 points The main idea talked about at the Convention was power of the national government. The people at the convention were debating on whether the government should be one, centralized power. The ideas of federalism and sectionalism were talked about at the Convention and also still around during the period before the Civil War. These ideas can be seen with the split between the North and the South. The North tried to regain the south with many actions and military strategies. Also should have given an example about states rights. This was a very big idea talked about at the Convention. Very well thought out answers.. Good thinking and understanding. 2. What Senator (Calhoun, Webster, Clay) do you most closely agree with and why? 5 points I agree most with Senator Clay. His main beliefs surrounded the ideas of nationalism. Nationalism is a strong feeling of loyalty to ones country that creates a sort of unity among its people. I believe all people should feel loyalty and an attachment to ones country. Henry Clay tried to spread this idea and it was a good idea because it attempted to bring together the people of the North and South.

Name __________High___________
Well done. I like how you expanded on the idea of loyalty and unity. Very big part of nationalism. 3. How are the Gettysburg Address and the Declaration of Independence similar? How are they different? (two each) 4 points One similarity between these two documents is that they both talk about ideas of freedom and equality. They also talk a lot about government, mostly democracy. One difference is that the Gettysburg Address wants a unified nation. The Declaration of independence wants government to be separated among the states. Also, men and states should have a lot of rights. What about democracy? Expand on that idea a little bit more. I like where you are going. Show you know about the ideals of democracy and how they are similar between the two documents. Freedom and equality could be expanded as well. For who and what? Good answers though and great differences.
