Hi Everyone! The weather is finally fantastic here and it seems fitting to do the May edition of the newsletter a few days early! After a string of sellouts, we actually have some room in the next few shows; and they are great shows. This Wednesday Susie Vinnick (Maple Blues Award winner this year) and Wendell Ferguson (guitar player extraordinaire and general funny man) and Mike McCormick (of the Arrogant Worms), Thursday is the incomparable Tom Wilson aka Lee Harvey Osmond (formerly of Junkhouse and current member of Blackie and the Rodeo Kings) and on Saturday Brian Byrne of (Lead singer of I Mother Earth) and Gerry Finn (Guitarist for David Usher) are up for what is becoming a much talked about show. We've also have some exciting news to announce that simply cannot wait. Our 5th birthday celebration bookings in late June and early July are complete. The week will feature Ottawa based Silver Creek kicking it off and Emilie Claire Barlow wrapping up. Danny Michel and the Garifuna Collective will be in for a rare opportunity to see them together; June 29 and 30th. It's official now and we're outright giddy about it; music legend and perhaps the most accomplished and versatile musician in the history of rock 'n roll, Leon Russell and his band are coming. Really. The Master of Space and Time and 2011 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee himself; July 1st and 2nd! We've also added a few more shows later in the year. Amos the Transparent and Kalle Mattson are coming July 20th (details to be confirmed). Dave Gunning Returns with Ennis in September. Martha Wainwright returns in October. Garnet Rogers returns in November. Searson returns for a Christmas show late late in the year. We're also Hiring! Summer's coming and we're looking for Neat people. We plan on having a Neat T of course. In addition, however, we've decided to have a designer, artist and/or illustrator come up with a limited run of shirts that represent a year at Neat. with us in the beginning before heading off to go to school in San Fran to hone her illustration skills. She was the perfect choice for the 2009 shirt (it's wonderful)( (and no, you can't see it yet). The first 2 designs are done, but shirt selection is not. Any comments on sizes and brands are welcome!

On the Community Front.

The next Soundcheck is May 29th. Soundcheck is our version of an open mic hosted by Mike McCormick. There is no cover charge and it will be a monthly event. Click here if you're interested in playing! The Burnstown Community Association is having a cleanup day May 25th Burnstown Piers at 10am!

April 23rd; Susie Vinnick, Wendell Ferguson and Mike McCormick are in the Sandbox! ($20) Three great performers take turns playing their favourite songs and then accompany the others on their songs. Susie Vinnich was the Maple Blues Awards' Acoustic Act of the Year and Female Vocalist of the year. Wendell Ferguson is a stunning guitar player and very funny fellow. Mike McCormick is our host and member of The Arrogant Worms (very very funny fellows). It will be a fun and interactive night!

April 24th; Tom Wilson (aka Lee Harvey Osmond) - Hamilton ($35) Tom Wilson is Lee Harvey Osmond. He is also a member of Blackie and the Rodeo Kings, a member of the band Junkhouse (in the day). He is an artist and gregarious showman with the deepest possible voice. This show will be a treat! The new release The Folk Sinner is receiving great reviews ('the first must have CD of 2013').

April 27th; Brian Byrne (I Mother EArth) w/ Gerry Finn- Toronto ($25) I Mother Earth front man Brian Byrne's solo shows are not to be missed. He is being joined on this Saturday by Gerry Finn (David Usher's guitar player). Brian has been finding some time to do shows around the I Mother Earth schedules and the resulting shows are creating a real buzz. Lots of talk about this show! Seems some groups may be travelling. Use the facebook page below if you're lookin' for a ride.

May 1st; Stephen Fearing w/ Erin Costello- Toronto ($25) Stephen Fearing is one third of Blackie and the Rodeo Kings and a seasoned Folk singer, and great guitar player. He's coming with Erin Costello! This show is nearly Sold Out

May 4th - Pavlo - Toronto ($46) Last visit, Pavlo had the audience completely engaged. He and his band mates are great showmen. The music has Mediterranean DNA, the playing is lightning fast at times, contemplative at others and often complete with a 'show-off' 'one up man-ship' between players that makes for a fun evening.

May 10th; Alan Doyle - Newfoundland ($75) - SOLD OUT Alan Doyle is one of the Founding Members of Great Big Sea. He's coming with a band from the UK; The Dunwells. The waiting list for this show got sol long, we closed it!

May 11th; Declan O'Donovan w/Ryan McNally - Yukon ($15) With a raw, gritty and unique voice, singer/pianist Declan ODonovan is a master storyteller who draws his audiences in with evocative lyrics, a sense of humour just this side of dark, and a sweet melodic charm that is plain irresistible. Moving his deft fingers along the keyboard, swiftly changing from blues & roots rock to Canadiana and back again. Ryan McNally has been touring across Canada and back again with his acoustic traditional blues, jazz and old time music; when he's not busy on his m,any many side projects!

work with other artists such as Roxanne Potvin and the Cooper Brothers, and a tour playing keyboards for Juno award-winning artist Charlie Major as the opening act for rock and roll legends ZZ Top. As a local entertainer, hes been joined by special guests including Great Big Sea's Alan Doyle, Cuba Gooding Jr., and the Blues Brother Dan Ackroyd.

May 19th; Small World Project - Montreal ($27.50) The Montreal-based trio Small World Project is back at School House Stage to perform an original soundtrack composed for the Classic animated film: The Adventures of Prince Achmed. Inspired by the Arabian Nights (Aladdin and the magic lamp), this 1926 German animated fairytale by Lotte Reiniger is recognized as the world's oldest surviving animated feature film and is considered as one of the greatest masterpiece of animated film. Come and see them performed this musico-cinematic tale in Burnstowm before they head to New York City next spring to premiere it at the 2013 edition of the New York Ukulele Festival!
