Bronte School Headmasters Newsletter

15th March 2013

This is just a small selection of the splendid photographs which were taken on French Day. Next week, as you know from Mrs. Woods letter, is Science week with particular emphasis on Science Day on Monday. On Wednesday there is a visit from Mr. Harrison, a regular and welcome visitor from Mayfield Grammar School, to talk to Year 5 and 6 on Changing Materials. There is also a STEM Activity afternoon for them on Thursday afternoon. For another reason it has been an exciting week for Reception Class. Two chicks were born on French DayPierre and Louis Poussin! A third and fourth appeared on Thursday; they are yet to be named. A vote is taking place, as I write!

Come and see the full display in the Hall plus the drawings and paintings which were done during the day. Cyrille joined us from France, as he does every year, and spent time with every year group and with every table at lunch! At the end of the day he told me how impressed he was with the children. Its always a pleasure to come to Bronte School. Keep up the good work. My thanks and congratulations go to Mme Baldacci for organising such a fun-packed day for the children, giving them the opportunity to make crepes, play board games in French, have French picnics, watch chez Mimi and learn from languagenut.com on the computers. .. And, of course, all the teachers and assistants played their part. Thank you also for playing your part by having a croissant breakfast with us in such great numbers. We make no excuse for enjoying dressing up occasionally and entering into the spirit of a special day! Quelle excellente journe. Merci beaucoup tout le monde!

Last Monday morning Year 5 joined Mrs. Gordon and Mrs. Prescott at the Woodville Halls to watch a Shakespeare 4 Kidz production of The Tempest. Mrs. Prescott said it was extremely enjoyable; the children described it as both exciting and wonderful. This was another opportunity for the children to experience a new Shakespeare play at an accessible level .. Could this be a 2014 Gordon Prescott Shakespeare production? Next Wednesday morning Shakespeare 4 Kidz are visiting the school to help Years 5 and 6 with this years production of Twelfth Night.

On Tuesday Year 6 are visiting St. Pierre School in Calais, a school with which we have developed close links over the last few years. We depart in the school minibus and Mr. Carters car at 07.00, cross over by Le Shuttle, spend the day at the school and then return by approximately 18.00a long but very exciting and interesting day, which I will tell you about in next weeks newsletter. Please remember that the Infants Concert mentioned in the calendar for next Wednesday has now been combined with the Juniors Concert the following week. Next Thursday, however, we do have the Parents Evening for most classes, unless you have been informed otherwise. Please check that you know the arrangements. If any parent wishes to see me, please contact the office beforehand so that a time can be arranged. Please note the following, however: Do not assume that children can be left in school at the end of the day (unless you have an appointment before 16.00). Unless pre-booked either for tea or late collection, children should be collected as usual between 15.30 and 15.40. Parents are expected to make their own child care arrangements, if returning later and not bring children back with them. Parents Council contact sheets are being sent to you today. The next meeting is on Monday 25th March. Next Thursday Reception Class are visiting Drusillas Zoo Park and Year 2 have a re-arranged visit to Forest School (from Tuesday).

Hood won the House basketball match 144. Todays House hockey has been moved to next Friday when there will also be the House netball competition before the Gym competition at the end of the afternoon! (Parents are most welcome at this event). On Tuesday Mrs. Rogers is taking a much reduced school team (because of the Year 6 trip to Calais) to the ISA London South Indoor Athletics Competition at Riverston School. Three boxes of ChYps mini friends are being delivered to the school today. Even by Monday, I doubt whether there will be many left. Keep going with the Sainsburys vouchers and the Easter raffle. The draws for the raffle and for the Bronte Friends 100 Club will be held on the last morning of term. The Holiday Club banners will be on show from today. Heres a preview of what they look like:
