SITA provides a data mobile communications service to airlines, using these stations. Through this network of 27 stations, deployed in 25 airports (depicted in Figure 2.13), AENA plans to provide en-route ATC services in 2013.

2.1.4.2 Integrated ARINC Ground Stations AENA signed in 2001 an agreement with ARINC for the deployment of VHF Data Link Ground Stations, used by ARINC to provide to its airlines customers data mobile communication services based on ACARS protocol. AENA provides to ARINC sites (depicted in Figure 2.14) and terrestrial communication services for the connection of these stations to the global ARINC network.

Manufactured by Nortel Telecom, the nodes of the REDAN network provides X.25, Frame-Relay and ATM services. There are two types of equipment: DPN 100 y Passport. Inter-node digital links are provided by Telefonica PTT from 64 Kbps. to 2Mbps. Microwaves and Optical Fibers owned by Aena are mostly used. REDAN also provides IP services in all the locations of Aena thanks to the use of CISCO 3845 routers in the airports and CISCO 7200 routers in the ACCs. REDAN Management is supported by the following tools: Nortel Management for DPN 100 and Passport equipment.
