The New Mangalore Port (NMP) is an artificial lagoon port commissioned in 1974. It situated at latitude 12 55 north and longitude 74 48 east located at Panambur in Mangalore as shown in the image below. It is situated towards the north of the Gurupura river. It is located between the ports of Mormugao to the north and Cochin to the South. The increased TEUs of containers as well as the better connectivity by road and rail, has brought about the proposal of a multipurpose berth (Berth No.18) to facilitate handling general cargo, break bulk cargo, project cargo and containers with advantage of deep draft in the Western Dock basin of the New Mangalore Port.
