April/MayTeacher, Staff, and Website of The Month!

Exceptional teachers, staff members, and interactive communication channels are the backbone of our great school. When we have these essential elements in place, they allow us to provide the type of teaching and learning experiences for our students that create the level of readiness needed for high school, college, and tomorrows high demand jobs. Teachers and Support Staff deserve all the recognition that we can give them. On that note, we are proud to announce the April/May Outstanding Teacher, Staff Member, and Website of the Month. With these recognitions, teachers and staff members will have a sign hung above their classroom door, a feature on the website, a formal presentation in front of their students, preferred parking for the recognition period, a spotlight in the newsletter, and a feature on the school's blog, Facebook page, and twitter feed. Teacher of the Month: Billie Williams Ms. Williams works tirelessly to reach her students using a variety of research based instructional strategies. Recently, her students took the Social Studies standards on World War II and paired original lyrics with current, popular songs. Using methods like this, many of Ms. Williams' students have scored in the top percentages on the district's Social Studies benchmark assessments. Her insistence that all students can learn has led to phenomenal student growth in her classroom and shows that motivation and innovation lead to amazing results. Ms. Williams also is an integral part in keeping the climate or Irmo Middle a positive one by coordinating pep rallies, like our most recent PASS pep rally, and volunteering on the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports committee. Irmo Middle is proud to recognize Ms. Billie Williams as the April Teacher of the Month! Support Staff of the Month: Diane Clayton Ms. Clayton, our 7th grade discipline secretary, ensures that all student discipline records are organized and accounted for at all times. Her always present smile and dependable efforts are a tremendous help to both IMS administrators and faculty. Her ability to keep on top of things while often providing words of advise for our students is an admirable trait. Ms. Clayton also lends a hand during our quarterly Strive for Five celebrations and any extracurricular activities she is needed at. Irmo Middle is proud to recognize Ms. Diane Clayton as our April Support Staff of the Month! Website of the Month: Sandra Jensen Ms. Jensen, a math teacher on Team 84, has a love for teaching and working with animals at the Riverbanks Zoo. Both of these loves come through on her website, which gives parents and students alike the opportunity to learn more about her interests while challenging
students to stretch their knowledge of Geometry and Algebra. Her website provides students with countless resources and avenues in which to communicate with Ms. Jensen.

Congratulations to Cheryl Cooley for being selected as the 20122013 SC Social Worker of the Year!! This is a huge honor and we are so proud of her for all that she's done for the students and their families at Irmo Middle School.
