TRANSPORTATION IN INDONESIA

Indonesia's transport system has been shaped over time by the economic resource base of an archipelago with thousands of islands, and the distribution of its more than 200 million people highly concentrated on a single island which is Java. All transport modes play a role in the countrys transport system and are generally complementary rather than competitive. Road transport is predominant. The railway system has four unconnected networks in Java and Sumatra primarily dedicated to transport bulk commodities and long-distance passenger traffic. Sea transport is extremely important for economic integration and for domestic and foreign trade. It is well developed, with each of the major islands having at least one significant port city. The role of inland waterways is relatively minor and is limited to certain areas of Eastern Sumatra and Kalimantan. The function of air transport is significant, particularly where land or water transport is deficient or non-existent. It is based on an extensive domestic airline network where all major cities can be reached by passenger plane. Jakarta is the capital of Indonesia. Some forms of transport are very modern, some old and some traditional. For example, modern transport are taxi, ship, plane, train. And then, traditional transport are becak, bajaj, delman and bemo. In modern city such as Jakarta, traditional transport are exist. You can see many bajaj around Jakarta, with bright orange and noisy ... easily describes a bajaj. Fare determination is by bargaining. You'd think you'd have to be careful about robbery since the vehicle is so open. Another noisy little neighborhood vehicle is the bemo, which is used for local transportation in limited areas in Jakarta. After that, there is becak that fit two passengers comfortably and possibly even more, depending on the size of the passenger. Becak were banned within the Jakarta city limits, and so on. It is so amazing that we can see almost of vehicles are made heavy traffic. Heavy traffic in Jakarta is very annoying for people that live in this central city. I live in Jakartas central city. They are plenty of vehicle from my house to anywhere included to nearest town, example Jababeka city where my college there. In my town, transport from the town to other parts of the other city is particularly good. In Jakarta, to get to most places by train, there is also commuter rail service in the Jakarta metropolitan area, known as KRL. Trains connect big cities. Some trains are dirty and are full with passengers. People even hang outside the trains, dangerous indeed. The most popular way of traveling in Jakarta are taxis. The taxis put a sign in the window saying where they are empty or they have passengers. While its an expensive transport in Jakarta, I highly recommend it because it is very convenient way to travel. Unfortunately, sometimes the drivers go too fast. But if you compare them, you will also choose travel with trains because they are safer than taxis. I travel by bus or also can called metromini quite often, maybe almost every time. I also used angkot and busway to go to many places in my town. Sometimes, I use them to go to my college if my father can not take me to college. But its worth it. I like the convenience of

busway travel. It is much more fun than going by car, you just also pay for single trip anywhere with cheap the ticket price. Taxis travel are quite expensive in my country, and the cost goes up every heavy traffic. It is so annoying and make you feel worried that how much must you can pay for travel with taxis. Many people in my country have ever flown, and they are in some hurry to use it. There is so much security these days. Also, although they know that flying is actually one of the safest forms of transport (much safer than traveling by car, for example). But there are some people that think about if they flew by plane, they would be nervous. Maybe, they imagine it is quite uncomfortable sitting in a small seat with not much space for several hours. And that is way if they go to somewhere that nearly, they will choose road transportation. It will be better for them. Besides by plane, you can also use ship for go to another island. But it will spend a lot of time. It can make the passenger feel bored. Finally, the advice I would give to somebody visiting my city, Jakarta is this: use the trains for very long journeys, buses for very short journeys, and taxis for the convenient journey. For all, we can use plane to go to another island. And if you travel on feet, you must bring a map. It is so difficult to go somewhere in my country without knew anything about the road. You will definitely give up. I suggest to must be careful for your goods. There are so many criminals in outside. Just never forget to bring a map and bring some money, I sure you can enjoy your journey.
