The East Tennessee Equality Council (ETEC) is proud to welcome
you to Knoxville PrideFest 2013. Each year our events grow and
we have more fun than ever before. This year will be no different,
but no matter how big it gets, it wont be the same without YOU!
With over 25 events in 2013, there is something for everyone so
check out our online calendar, grab a friend and come
LIVE. LOVE. BE. PROUD! WITH KNOXVILLE PRIDEFEST!
2013
has already been a memorable year for LGBT Americans and
were hoping to be able to celebrate some more victories for
Equality by the time Knoxville PrideFest rolls around on 6/22.
Marriage Equality seems to be on everyones minds and with 12
states and the District of Columbia now recognizing same-sex
marriages, how much longer can it really be before its the law of
the land? Well, you may know THAT answer before this book
comes to print as the US Supreme Court is expected to rule on
the Defense of Marriage Act and Californias discriminatory
Prop 8 in early June. No matter what the SCOTUS ruling, 2013
will go down in history as a groundbreaking year for advancing
Marriage Equality and we cant wait to celebrate our victories with
you at Knoxville PrideFest 2013!
The Boy Scouts of America have also been in the mix as, while
denying equal rights to LGBT adults to help lead their troops, they did
have over 61% of their membership vote to allow gay youth to be
Scouts. Im not really sure what that means for those boys once they
grow up and the organization disallows them to continue serving, but
maybe theyll Be Prepared to figure that out at that time. In any
case, EVERYONES welcome at Knoxville PrideFest, so we hope they
all come OUT & Live. Love. Be. PROUD! w/ us this year.
WELCOMING YOU TO PRIDEFEST
If you havent heard, 2013 also brings a lot of changes to our
own Knoxville PrideFest Festival. The biggest change is a move
from our beloved home for the last 5 years on Market Square to
the South Lawn of the Worlds Fair Park. Its a move that we
thought long & hard about, but in the end was a result of our
own success & growth and the need to allow our community to
continue experiencing that growth as we Live. Love. Be. PROUD!
daily. Make sure and check out the Whats New at Knoxville
PrideFest page later in this book for some other changes that
come along with our move. I hope youll be as excited as we are
and come OUT to celebrate with us.
The biggest change is our venue, but to me the most important
change is our choice of headlining entertainment for this years
festival. I wont spoil the surprise as theres plenty of info later
in this book, but suffice it to say that ALL 4 (Yes 4) of our
headliners choose to Live. Love. Be. PROUD! right along w/
you as out & proud members of the LGBT Community. A great
FIRST for Knoxville that I hope you appreciate & enjoy.
Were always proud of our inclusion of a wide variety of venues
for our events. If youre joining us for one of our 20 Eat OUT
w/ Pride events, heading to The Emporium for Art OUT in the
City, coming out to the always HOT Next to Nothing Fashion
Show & Auction or even marching down Gay St. in the Pride
Parade, thats what PRIDE is all about, so come OUT and Live.
Love. Be. PROUD! ALL over Knoxville with Knoxville PrideFest.

No matter HOW you celebrate, or who you are, whether you
make all of the events, or just a few, come OUT and Live. Love.
Be. PROUD! with Knoxville PrideFest this year! It wont be the
same without YOU!
See you there,
M. Todd Cramer

June 22, 2013

Welcome to the 2013 Knoxville PrideFest!

This annual celebration of music, entertainment and speakers focuses on one of
humanitys basic principles: to promote equality and inclusion of all. While the
festival has moved from Market Square to Worlds Fair Park
this year, the mission to live, love and be proud hasnt
changed and still rings true.

Throughout the day, you have an opportunity to support
vendors and businesses that reach out to the LGBT
community. They have come to display information about
their organization and sell goods and services. By supporting
these businesses, you help to bolster our local economy and
make Knoxville even stronger.

The 2013 PrideFest features several activities, including a
joint concert with the Knoxville Gay Mens Chorus and
Nashville in Harmony, Art Out in the City, the Pride Picnic, and more. Last year, I
walked in the parade down Gay Street to show my support for equality. Though I
am unable to participate this year, I hope the 2013 parade is an even bigger
success.

I have often said that a great city opens its arms and gathers into its midst the
diversity of its people - people of all races and colors, people of all abilities, gay
and straight, people of all faiths, from the youngest to the oldest, from the richest
to the poorest. All of us are Knoxville, and Knoxville will only become greater if all
of us are involved and respected,

I am honored to serve as your Mayor, and hope you will enjoy all of the activities
that PrideFest has to offer.

Sincerely,

Madeline Rogero
Mayor

Welcome Home This East Tennessee Born &
Raised, Tony Award Winning, Star Of Stage &
Screen! From his forthcoming CD, Levi mines an era
that pulsates on the axis of sexual liberation and
personal expression., the seventies, when r&b and
dance music emerged from the black and gay
communities as vital anthems of freedom. With
soaring strings and hard-edged club beats, the
enduring urban rhythms provide a fiery catalyst to
Levis fearlessly rambunctious charisma, soulful voice
and compelling song craft.
NBC-TVs The Voice introduced her to the world as
a singer of stunning power and range with the
presence and ability to draw comparisons to Etta
James, Janis Joplin, Bonnie Raitt and Melissa Etheridge,
to name just a few of the great torchbearers whose
legacies she evokes. A songwriter, multi-instrumentalist
and dynamic presence with the ability, authority and
desire to carve her own place in music history.

IN OUR
PUB!
On the Corner of Jackson and South Central, In the Old City
Our mission is to celebrate and preserve
our regions' musical heritage in the only way it
can be done: playing the tunes and passing
them on from musician to musician. East
Tennessee has rich roots in Irish and Scottish
music, and they merged here with other
inuences and evolved into bluegrass and old
time Appalachian genres. At Boyds Jig and
Reel we celebrate our musical past, our present,
and future. Come on down, bring your ddle or
instrument of your choice and join in. If you
forget your instrument, there are plenty tuned
up and ready to play from pianos to a double
bass to a harp, and of course plenty of
mandolins and ddles. Dont play? We have
beer and food for the spectators!
