SWISS posts encouraging April traffic figures

Swiss International Air Lines reports substantial growth in both its

flight numbers and its passenger volumes for April 2011. The
sizeable increases are due to the extensive airspace closures in
the same month last year as a result of the volcanic ash cloud, and
to a general increase in SWISS capacity this year.
SWISS carried a total of 1 294 339 passengers in April 2011, a
33.1% increase on the 972 608 of the same month last year. The
airline operated 23.2% more flights in the month: 12 386,
compared to 10 052 for the prior-year period. Total available seatkilometre capacity was 24.6% above its 2010 level.
SWISSs systemwide seat load factor for April amounted to 81.9%,
a 1.9-percentage-point improvement on the 80.0% of the prior-year
period. While seat load factor on intercontinental services
remained broadly at 2010 levels (84.5%, compared to 84.8%), the
76.9% seat load factor achieved for the European network was a
6.4-percentage-point improvement on the 70.5% of April 2010.
Swiss WorldCargo, SWISSs airfreight business unit, reports an
April cargo load factor (by volume) of 77.9%, a 4.5-percentagepoint decline on the 82.4% of the prior-year period. Total revenuetonne-kilometre cargo volume for the month, however, was a
16.3% improvement on April 2010.
