Organizational Overview
For over 60 years, the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra has brought the highest quality of live orchestral performances to local, national, and international audiences. The ESO is one of Canada's foremost orchestral ensembles with a wide-ranging and adventurous repertoire, from classical masterworks to pops and children's concerts. By attracting talented musicians from all over the world, the diversity of the ESOs orchestra complements the diversity of its performances. The ESO is committed to community engagement and enhancing quality of life through music education for children and youth and outreach programming for all ages and cultures. Individual and corporate donations ensure quality programming, affordable ticket prices, and continued artistic excellence. In support of musical education for children and youth, the ESO has created numerous outreach programs, including the Adopt-A-Player, Young Composers Project, and Composer-In-Residence programs. Each year, the ESO partners with schools across Alberta as part of their critically acclaimed Education Concerts. Purpose / Objectives of the Project

The benefits of music education can be seen in the positive impact on the community at various levels. By fostering a professional environment that develops passion in youth, the ESO recognizes the possibilities of personal growth and achievement through continuous learning and access to education. Social and economic well-being is strengthened by the relationship between arts organizations and the community. Muzak Camp and Showcase is the Edmonton Symphony Orchestras pilot program in partnership with public and private schools across Northern Alberta to increase the musical education and experience of junior and high school students. Students learn how to become educated consumers, active listeners, composers, and performers in the music industry. Through this program, youth will have the chance to work with an ESO musician mentor and perform a five-minute piece of original music at an ESO concert at the KidsFest 2014 Festival July 23, 2014, taking place at Hawrelak Park. Program builds on existing public school/ESO programs Reaches out to youth in Northern Alberta communities not able to access the ESO on a regular basis. Creates a broad impact on the musical education and personal development of junior and senior high school students. Goal: Engage students across Northern Alberta in a way that fosters creativity and personal growth for the purpose of developing their musical identities. Objective 1: To mentor and train 35 students with their original compositions in preparation for free public concert.

Measurement & Evaluation

Stage 1: Preliminary Assessment A form will be distributed to schools participating following the call for submissions; students will be asked to voluntarily identify why they feel music is important, and what they like most about the program and the opportunities it offers. Teachers will also be asked to identify why they feel their students will benefit from this exercise. This exercise will develop a rough dataset to be examined to determine merit, and further explore the facets of the project rationale. Data collected will serve to further supplement existing research and strengthen the case for support in following years. Stage 2: Market Research Following the performance, three separate surveys will be distributed to key stakeholders: students, teachers, and clinicians. The surveys will determine program efficacy and overall stakeholder satisfaction by evaluating the communication and quality of education. These will be short online surveys using the ESOs current access to survey monkey. Data will be gathered through quantitative and qualitative questions. Stage 3: Internal Evaluation An internal report will be compiled and distributed within the organization that will evaluate and examine the results of stages one and two, include any additional pertinent information received from stakeholders, analyze the use funds and adherence to the budget, identify risks and how they were mitigated, and examine changes that may be made in the future.
