ABOUT THIS FAMILY

Mirna and her husband Noah have nine children between the ages of 23-4 as well as two grandchildren who all live in a house that a neighbor has allowed them to use for the last eight years. Mirna has inherited a small plot of land but due to the lack of money, they have not been able to build a home. Mirna has enjoyed living in this home, but they are having to move out soon. The family lives on Noahs income as a taxi driver (he works in El Progreso and the surrounding rural areas) and what their oldest child brings in from odd jobs around their community. They also use part of their land to cultivate a small amount of corn and beans.

ROAD REPAIR - Repairing roads is incredibly important in an area with constant mudslides, landslides, and downpours. More than a thousand people use this road daily and the hazardous conditions make it very dangerous for pedestrians. This also makes it possible for emergency services to access communities that were previously cut off from life-saving police, re, and medical services.

SCHOOL REPAIR - Imagine sending your child to school wondering if shell fall into a latrine today. This is the reality of so many in this area because of the moisture on the ground, holes dug for latrines cave in regularly. Many families serve at a local school digging deeper and safer holes for new latrines.
