Haitis series of unfortunate events

We all know about the huge earthquake that struck Haiti on Tuesday, 12 January 2010. Before the earthquake, Haiti was a under developing country, thats lower than developing. It was even classified at one time as the poorest country in the world. The earthquake caused major short and long term damage to Haiti and its citizens for example; hundereds of thousands died and many more were injured. Major cities were destroyed and the earthquake caused major damage to the homes of many. Many fortunate countries pitched in to help Haiti tried to get back on their feet, they were raising money and starting charities and trying to do as much as they could. Just as Haitis conditions were slowly improving, another epidemic struck Cholera Cholera is a infectious disease that attacks your intestinal system. An infected person can experience severe vomiting explosive diarrhea and major dehydration. Cholera is easily curable but many are dying in Haiti because they do not have the resources or doctors to treat this type of disease For example with dehydration you need to drink a lot of water and in Haiti not many people have access to clean water and therefore many are dying Cholera is also very contagious and spreads very quickly Living conditions in Haiti are not very stable many families whose houses were destroyed in the earthquake are living in tent cities, where a series of tents are put up and many live in them. Because so many people are contained in a small space, cholera is spreading even quicker and becoming more and more serious. On top of this Hurricane season has hit Haiti and with it came Hurricane Tomas. Hurricane Tomas, however was not as serious and many anticipated, the major concern is flooding. Because of the previous unfortunate events, many in Haiti are without shelter, and those who do have shelter, their shelter has very poor support. When the floods come many will be folded and diseases will be even more prone to be spread. So Haiti is in a very bad place at the moment and things dont look like they will be getting much better soon.

Canadas governor general Michaelle Jean is Haitian, and wanting to help, she has began United Nations work for Haiti. She was officially named special envoy to Haiti for the UN's Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.

This article related to business because Haiti is finding it increasingly difficult to bounce back from the earthquake and now the hurricane and cholera. Haiti is in a lot of debt and there economy is very poor. They borrowed a lot of money in attempt to rebuild shelters and places for their citizens to live and they have not been able to pay this back as yet. Houses and major buildings still need to be rebuilt, so it looks like Haiti will be in debt for a while.
