DISCUSSION
MP for strengthening SP function of holding and wrapping blood: for bleeding, hemorrhage, stronger for Lower Warmer, such as uterine bleeding, hemorrhoids, hematuria, but also for any bleeding disorder, such as nosebleeds, vomiting of blood. For deficiency (moxa) or excess (moxa or prick to cause bleeding). Very calming point, for excessive dreaming, dream disturbed sleep, depression or sadness

SOURCE POINT

Strengthens SP, transforms dampness Regulates Qi, harmonizes ST Dispels cold damp from channels

Abdominal pain and distention Acute gastroenteritis Constipation Diarrhea Epigastric pain Hunger with no desire to eat Headache from dampness (tight band sensation around the head) Lower limb and mid-section edema

To supplement SP organ function use SP2 and SP3 together, tonification point plus source point. For deficient SP diarrhea, abdominal bloating, diarrhea with undigested food. May be useful for anorexia, when there is a need to add flesh to the body. MP for SP tonification, for digestive problems from SP deficiency, soft, slow, slippery pulse, pale puffy tongue, etc., especially good for cold, damp, weak digestive conditions, or cold damp painful obstruction (joint pain worse in cold, damp weather). Needle and moxa or just moxa, often stronger to use SP and SP3 together. Nourishing point, good for blood deficiency. For anemia with ST36, BL17, BL19 and BL20. Consider using for people who are very pale.

FUNCTIONS
Strengthens SP, transforms dampness Regulates Qi, harmonizes ST Activates Chong vessel Breaks up masses, accumulations Moves stagnation in MW, LW

ACUPOINT

LOCATION
On medial side of foot distal/inferior to base of 1st mtp, approx. 1 cun from SP3). (JAS: located slightly more proximal and/or inferior to Chinese location. Palpate for tender spot.)

INDICATIONS
Abdominal distension Bloating Pain Diarrhea due to stress/anxiety Epigastric pain (esp. Acute sharp pain) Vomiting Irregular menstruation (esp. with Qi/Blood stasis)

DISCUSSION
Connects w/ abdomen and chest via many pathways, through luo, which connects with ST and enters ST and intestines; through Chong vessel, which connects w/REN and KD and enters the uterus; and through SP. Thus, it will be indicated for many disorders of the abdomen and chest. MP for severe abdominal pain, mentioned more often for lower abdominal, but also for epigastric pain, whether from Qi stagnation, blood stasis, or damp accumulation. MP for abdominal lumps and masses, uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, dysmenorrheal, endometriosis, menstrual problems from blood stagnation. May help bring on delayed period def. Master point of the Chong vessel, enters the uterus, for many genitourinary and reproductive disorders, irregular menstruation, dysmenorrheal, endometriosis, retained placenta. Very effective with coupled point PC6 of Yin Wei vessel for HT and chest pain, emotional disorders, irritability, anxiety, stress, chronic nervous and digestive disorders with emotional content. Sprained ankle, for lateral sprain medial points can help reduce swelling and improve circulation. For connective tissue problems involving the ankle, those who sprain or dislocate easily, for knee or ankle arthritis.
