FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES ANNUAL GIFT & NEW TRUSTEES

At its annual meeting, the Foundations Board of Trustees approved a gift of $80,000 toward the purchase of ultrasound equipment in the hospitals heart center. Nearly 6,200 cardiac tests, many of them requiring ultrasound, were completed in the center last year. This gift combined with a $50,000 grant from the Greater Norwich Foundation will fund one of three ultrasounds needed by the hospital. In other business, the trustees elected John R. Masse as chairman; Michael J. Migliore, chairman of annual support; and Brian Voss, secretary/treasurer. In addition to Voss, trustees elected to the board were Kecia Funaro-Burton and Rachel Larsen. Trustees leaving the board due to term expirations were Timothy J. Handy, Eric Larsen, and Richard M. Runyon.
John R. Masse, newly-elected Foundation Chairman, presents a check for $80,000 to Drake M. Lamen, MD, UHS Chenango Memorials President and CEO.

16th ANNUAL GOLF TOURNAMENT A BIG SUCCESS

A beautiful day was enjoyed by 34 teams and numerous volunteers at the Foundations annual golf tournament, picnic, and raffle held recently at the Canasawacta Country Club in Norwich. Numerous changes were made by tournament co-chairs Ron Martin and John Masse. Most notably a larger raffle. We wanted raffle ticket buyers to have more chances to win so we increased the number and variety of

items, said Martin. Several area restaurants donated gift certificates. A tablet was donated by the hospitals computer vendor and Preferred Mutual contributed several sets of sporting tickets. Special recognition goes NBT Bank, NA and Crothall Healthcare, Inc/Morrison Management Services for their Diamond Sponsorships. The event raised over $35,000 and we expect to clear about $20,000 for the Foundation, Martin reported at the picnic. If his prediction comes true, it will be the most money ever raised at the tournament. Winners were Mark DeMellier, Jake Kelly, Kevin Decker, and Sal Testani sponsored by Kelly Asphalt. Ron Martin and Sharon Miles won closest to the pin on Hole #2. Jaime Mullin and Phyllis Forsythe took the honors for longest drive on Hole #6. Bob McCarthy won the Dicks Pro Am spot donated by UHS.

3. You eliminate the risk of a market downturn impacting the value of your gift. Check with your tax preparer but now may be the time to implement this tax strategy. RENOVATION OF NEWTON AVE SITE NEARS COMPLETION

The 2012 gift of $54,000 from the Foundation provided the funding to renovate the interior of the former Medical Arts Building. That renovation will be completed by the end of June and coincides with the arrival of Dr. Daniel Downs, the hospitals new orthopedic surgeon. Part of the reason for the renovation was to prepare the building for this new orthopedic practice. The construction included a new surgical nurses station as well as an expanded registration area to accommodate the many patients visiting the center for surgical, orthopedic, pediatric, and walk-in services.

TIME IS RIGHT FOR DONATIONS OF STOCK

The recent surge of the Dow Jones may have created the best opportunity to donate stock in years. If you own shares of appreciated stock, now may be the time to consider a donation to the Foundation. Here are the main reasons why: 1. You can claim a tax deduction for the stocks fair market value on the day its donated. 2. You can avoid claiming a capital gain if you eventually sell it.
