THERE ARE NO W ELLS DRILLED IN THE AREA

The configuration of the current geological area of Guatemala is the result of an evolving tectono-sedimentary basin that can be described from the early Jurassic. A phase of rifting occurred from the Jurassic, who originated the separation between North America, South America and Yucatan, marks the beginning of the geological evolution of the area (Pindell, 1990). This separation of product formed intervening grabens depocenters and horsts or high. The intervening grabens basins that formed the depocentres formed for the accumulation of sediment vegetative and occurrences of evaporites and salt corresponding to the Todos Santos Formation, while that in the structural high sedimentation occurred a weaker; the bow the freedom could be one of those high, which restricted the sedimentation until the early Cretaceous. For the Late Jurassic, the Yucatan block had been almost completely isolated from sediment input to the vegetative and Early Cretaceous, the phase of rifting reaches its end during the deposition of the carbonates of the Member Cobn D. This deposition indicates the first marine transgression (Klosterman, 1990) of the evolutionary period mentioned. From the point of view of mother rock, the units deposited during this period have shown their importance in generating areas such as Campeche, Macuspana and Reform in Mexico (Peterson, 1983), by what is not discarded its generating capacity in the area of Peten. The Member Cobn D is composed mainly of collations of limestone and anhydrites with subordinate amounts of shale in the base. Toward the west and in parallel with the distribution of the Todos Santos, it becomes a thick sequence salina called "Facies Chisec"
