Ecological Vertical Green Screen

Product information
The Mobilane Green Screen is a living fence, consisting of a 5mm weld mesh galvanised steel security fence covered with plants. The plants are grown in a biodegradable pot, which is fitted at the bottom of the metal fence. Once the Green Screen is installed the pot will degrade completely in the soil.

The Green Screen is available in different sizes and with various types of plants, including Ivy, Beech and Hornbeam and can be cut to fit by using a bolt cutter.

Nature-friendly Wood-chip Pavement

Hard Base: The hard base needed for the World Expo are partly paved with wood chips having been compressed under super-heated highpressure steam at 182C for 30 minutes, a process that alters the crystal lattice structure of the fibrin in wood chips to make them permanently deformed (Shape Memory Effect). As they are chemicalfree natural materials, the wood chips will cause no burden to the natural environment after decomposition. After the World Expo, we could decompose the chips and lay soil for planting so as to avoid excavation provided hard-base paving had been adopted.

It is not necessary to setting too many constructions in the green area after Expo.So all the construction could be changed to sculptures where people can take a rest there.

After the Expo, all these constructions which we kept will be a nice scene of this green area.

GREEN CITY CONCEPT

- The Green City concept brings everyday life back in contact with nature. - Green in cities is good for aesthetics, ecology and economy. - A city with more trees and green can help solve many of our environmental problems including poor air quality, noise pollution, the urban heat island effect and water management. - Trees can reduce the amount of energy needed in buildings and therefore require less energy to run power plants. - Green makes people feel good and live healthier lifestyles.

Technology
Shanghai EXPO 2010 Central Green Area (Pudong)

GREEN CITY: the positive effect of green on AIR POLLUTION, TEMPERATURE, NOISE
- Trees intercept atmospheric particles by up to 25% and absorb gaseous pollutants; - Leaves and soil absorb fine dust and gaseous pollutants; - Leaf surfaces catch fine dust and gaseous pollutants; - Plants deposit fine dust on the downwind side by slowing the air movement. Technology
Shanghai EXPO 2010 Central Green Area (Pudong)

The influence of trees on the dust concentration in the air

GREEN CITY: the positive effect of green on AIR POLLUTION, TEMPERATURE, NOISE
- Green and trees absorb CO2 from the air and release O2 for breathing; - Green creates air that is more humid so less gas escapes; - Green and trees influence the amount of NO3 and O3 in the air, therefore diminishing greenhouse gasses. Technology

GREEN CITY: the positive effect of green on AIR POLLUTION, TEMPERATURE, NOISE
- Certain tree species have a better capacity to improve air quality than others (some trees catch the dust on their leaves and it falls, others absorb the fine dust and transport it to the soil where it is used by micro-organisms); - The larger the tree, the more pollution it removes from the air; - Evergreen trees catch less fine dust but are still helpful because they do this all year round. Technology
Shanghai EXPO 2010 Central Green Area (Pudong)

The effect of the size of trees on pollution removal

GREEN CITY: the positive effect of green on AIR POLLUTION, TEMPERATURE, NOISE
- Green and trees moderate the city temperature; - Urban heat islands can be reduced by up to 5 degrees C by planting trees and covering soils with green; - Green buffers incoming sunbeams, lowers temperatures and lifts up humidity in summer and can control wind chill and energy Technology loss in Shanghai EXPO 2010 Central Green Area (Pudong) winter; - Houses with strategically placed green outside can save 10% on energy costs.

GREEN CITY: the positive effect of green on AIR POLLUTION, TEMPERATURE, NOISE
- Trees that change wind patterns not only provide cooling and transport of dust and gas, but also reduce noise - Trees absorb and refract or dissipate noise - Open green structures optimise the diminishment of turbulence (turbulence brings sound to undesired places) Technology
Shanghai EXPO 2010 Central Green Area (Pudong)

GREEN CITY: the positive effect of green on AIR POLLUTION, TEMPERATURE, NOISE
- Green absorbs and bends air pollution and noise away; - Green creates a better microclimate for both the motorway and the surrounding area.

GREEN CITY the importance of making good choices

Core Themes of the Green City Concept - Use a good assortment of plants, make sure the knowledge of the plants is there; - The right tree in the right place - Use heavy plant material: 30-35cm diameter trees at least; - Make sure there is enough green to look at and to recreate in - Water and green together are important - Not just water but quality water - Green sells- green is valuable, but you have to make true on the green promises

Technology
Shanghai EXPO 2010 Central Green Area (Pudong)

Temperature and microclimate - green and trees moderate the temperature GREEN CITY: the positive effect of green roofs on - temperature stays lower through evaporation - control wind chill and energy loss TEMPERATURE - roof gardens can decrease the temperature of a whole city if there are enough of

- Green and trees can reduce energy use in buildings by shading - urban heat island-planting trees and covering soils with green reduces city temperature with 5 degrees Celsius buildings, altering air flows and lowering air temperatures - trees and branches lift wind and create shelter from wind in winter through transpiration; - Roof gardens regulate temperatures inside buildings; - Roof gardens can decrease the temperature of a whole city if there are enough of them Technology
