Worlds Great Thinkers

Many great thinkers in philosophy, sciences, law, poetry, religion and other fields made considerable contributions in the advancement of our world community. Common folks with ideas that seek to harness the summit of human potentialities. Great ideas that shape our contemporary thinking on living, spirituality, education, good government, and technological innovations in present day practical realities.
Ronald Wilson Reagan was a former movie actor, a governor of California, and few knew he was a lifeguard of 7 years and is said to have saved more than 77 people from drowning before he became the 40th President of the United States of America. Reagan was born in Tampico, Illinois on February 6, 1911. He got his Bachelor of Arts in economics and sociology in Eruke College. After college, he worked as a radio broadcaster in Iowa and then in Los Angeles where he began his career as an actor. As the President of the United States, he implemented sweeping new political and economic initiatives. His Reaganomics advocated for reduced tax rates to spur economic growth, controlling the money supply to reduce inflation, deregulation of the economy, and reducing government spending. In his first inaugural address on January 20, 1981, which Reagan himself wrote, he addressed the country's economic malaise arguing: "In this present crisis, government is not the solution to our problems; government is the problem." He was the oldest man elected for the office of the US Presidency at 69. Also, after 69 days in his administration an assassination attempt was attempted on his life. Making him the first US serving President to survive being shot in an assassination attempt. Reagan was elected a second term on January 20, 1985. His second term as US president saw an escalation of the Cold War, this was also the time where the Space Shuttle Challenger exploded on lift off killing the 7 astronauts on board. In his second term, he unveiled his plan to wage war on drug epidemic, tackled immigration reform, and advocated for the end of the Cold War. On June 5, 2004 Reagan died pneumonia complicated by Alzheimers disease. He left a legacy of un-matched accomplishments up to this very day. According to columnist Chuck Raasch, "Reagan transformed the American presidency in ways that only a few have been able to". He redefined the political agenda of the times, advocating lower taxes, a conservative economic philosophy, and a stronger military. His role in the Cold War further enhanced his image as a different kind of leader. Reagan's "avuncular style, optimism, and plain-folks demeanor" also helped him turn "government-bashing into an art form."

Ten center-based providers of DCCA-Child Care Developmental Fund participated and completed the 12hour Teacheread training last June 29, 2013. The 12-hour Teacheread training allowed the participants to explore the importance of reading aloud to children, not only the how of reading but also the why. Participants familiarize themselves to multi-cultural childrens literature in the Motheread/Fatheread book collection. They learn to scrutinize and discuss storybook themes & lessons. Discuss effectiveness of Motheread story sharing framework in the classroom and outside the classroom settings. They were also given the opportunity to practice what they learn by reading aloud to children that come for the JKPLs summer reading program. Two participants, namely Mr. Sobremisana and Mr. Salcedo took the story of Why Mosquitos Buzz in Peoples Ears a notch higher and presented it using puppet theater, which delighted the kids. The 12-hour teacheread training was led by Viola
