History of Boonton Theater

As one of the few surviving original

Vaudeville stages in the country, the Darress
Theater offers its patrons a truly unique
entertainment experience. Built in 1919, the
theater has a rich history that began with
Fall 2005 Vaudeville and silent movies, ending in the
1930’s when sound pictures were developed.
Chamber News
The theater retains much of its original
charm, while its style and character are
wholly unmatched. Enter under the stage Darress Theater Circa 1950
and enjoy the beauty of the woodwork and
tiered balconies. The experience and feel is
as though you have stepped back through time.

Tom Timbrook, a former military photographer, purchased the theater in the early 1980’s
and has been gradually restoring the Vaudeville stage to some of its early grandeur.

History of Boonton Theater
I ‘m honored, to be elected, as your president of your Tri-Town Chamber of Commerce for 2006. I know I speak for all the board
members when I say that we are very excited to continue the excellent
work that the 2005 board members have accomplished. I appreciate the
hard work and time they donate to our chamber.

I look forward to your continuing support. We again have maintained one

of the highest percentages of membership in the country.

Winter 2005
We will continue our support for the Kiwanis Ambulance, the Boonton
Fireman’s parade and Boonton Main Street programs.

In 2005, your chamber ran two trips to Atlantic City and held our first
annual golf outing. Both of these programs were very successful in funding

new directory will help to increase support for our members. This new
directory is being mailed to over 17,000 households and business in the
Tri-Town area, giving our members greater exposure than ever before.
This directory will continue to be available at all Municipal Offices, Banks and other businesses in our area. Please keep it handy and
use it to patronize our local chamber members.

I promise that the board members and I will continue to bring new ideas to the table in order to increase your benefits of being a
chamber member.

I believe that if we work together as a team, we can accomplish anything.

Open Forum

The Tri-Town Chamber conducted an

open forum meeting on February 13th.
As one would expect, the most talked
about subject was the Boonton Main
Street lack of parking and the abuse of
sp ri ng 2006 the 2 hour parking limit. It would be
great if the town of Boonton would just
purchase a few rotten buildings, level
C ham ber News
them, and toss some pavement on the
dead lots for parking. Unfortunately Open Forum at Merry Heart
this is not going to happen. This is a
conversation that is sounding very much like a broken record (if you remember what
a record was). Joe Barone, proprietor of Top Of The Park Restaurant, suggested
the Town of Boonton build a parking garage at the upper west end of Main Street.
All agreed this would be a great idea and in the spirit of “if you believe, you can
achieve”, Ann Krawiec will be heading a bake sale committee to raise funds for a
new 5 story $10,892,000 structure. We expect groundbreaking sometime in the
early 22nd century.
T r i- t o wn c ha mb e r o f c o mm e r ce

Although it is common knowledge, many of the retail and non-retail business

owners are abusing the 2 hour parking rule. How do they abuse the rule? They move
their vehicles every 2 hours, erase the tire chalk marks and many other devious
techniques. If you want more business we need to make it easy for people to shop.
Please use the upper Plane Street parking lot. It’s an all day parking facility for only
$0.50 (Note: this will help raise funds for our new state of the art parking facility).
Back to reality, It was generally acknowledged that during the holiday season the
lower part of Main Street was lacking holiday spirit. The cited reasons were A) lack
of holiday lighting and B) uncoordinated decorations. As much as the Chamber
would like to change this, it also requires community effort from the businesses
along Main Street. If the businesses would agree to put white lights in their
windows, we will create a uniform appearance. One good deed can lead to another,
and in this way we may attract more shoppers.
