Dear Corporate Supporter, On behalf of the student chapter of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) at The University of Houston, we would like to invite you to become involved with our chapter as we celebrate our 12th Anniversary and continue our efforts to mold our members into strong leaders within the City of Houston. Our corporate package, which outlines our goals and events for the academic school year, is meant to inform you about the various ways in which your company can become more involved with SHPEUH. We have seen our chapter grow tremendously since our establishment in 2002. Our numbers have changed but our focus has remained the same. SHPEUH has many opportunities for corporate involvement and support during the 20132014 academic year. Our events include conferences, both at the national and regional levels, outreach programs within our community, and various events to develop personal and professional leadership skills. An investment in SHPEUH will help us develop a means through which our members can learn more about the workplace industry, specifics about your organization, and establish an ongoing relationship that is mutually beneficial for your company and our organization. Furthermore, corporate sponsors have priority access to all programs, events, and activities our chapter organizes throughout the year, thus increasing your exposure and visibility within SHPE-UH, the Cullen College of Engineering, and The University of Houston. If you have any questions or need further information, please feel free to contact us via cell phone at (713) 412-6692 or (936) 499-8238 or via email at shpe.uh@gmail.com. Respectfully Submitted,
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the SHPE President, Cindy Sanchez, at (713) 412 - 6692 or by e-mail at: shpe.uh@gmail.com
History
The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) was founded in Los Angeles, California, in 1974 by a group of engineers employed by the city of Los Angeles. Their objective was to form a national organization of professional engineers to serve as role models in the Hispanic community. The concept of Networking was the key basis for the organization. SHPE quickly established two student chapters to begin the network that would grow to encompass the nation as well as reach countries outside the United States. Today, SHPE enjoys a strong but independent network of professional and student chapters throughout the nation.
Mission
SHPE changes lives by empowering the Hispanic community to realize their fullest potential and impacts the world through STEM awareness, access, support and development.
Statement of Values
We are brought together by heritage, social responsibility and desire to improve the equality of all people through the use of science and technology. SHPEs vision is a world where Hispanics are highly valued and influential as the leading innovators, scientists mathematicians, and engineers.
