Short Text After alot of research and changing from making school children about the current energy

crisis to holding interactive workshops on 5 star rating system we decided to focus on alternate sources of energy and mainly Solar Energy. During our research we had come across a lot of insights. One being girls in basti feeling unsafe during the dark and not being able to go outside due to improper lighting at public spaces. So we connected this issue with the use of solar lighting, the especially use of portable solar bulbs. This we came across with the help of our mentor in the Nizamudin Basti. But due to some issues we could not operate our project over there so we started looking for more bastis with improper lighting. During which we were introduced to Ms. Latika who is part of I am Gurgaon an organisation which has a major role in the development of the Bio Diversity Park in gurgaon. They have also adopted a basti nearby the Sikandarpur Basti where they had encouraged us to work with the kids of the basti. After brainstorming on alot of designs for the public installation which was supposed to be in two parts, one in the basti (for public lighting ) and one in the park (for public awareness). We shortlisted few which could be executed and were within our budget and finally worked out on a final design with the help of Ms. Medhavi Gandhi. The installation included a a framework made with the help of bamboo poles and a pulley within which paintings made by the kids using glass paints on acrylic sheets would be displayed. The artworks would depict folklores related to the sun and nature. Teaching them the importance of mother Earth. This installation would be powered using a solar panel. Over 35 workshops were held with the kids teaching them the technique and making them come up with their own interpretations of the stories. But due to last minute technical and permission issues the installation could take place and we put up the panels made by kids as a temporary exhibition in a hallway in the amphitheatre of the Park. The area was lit using 40 solar bulbs.

Long text Despite having a flourishing industry in all aspect whether say it information technology or tourism, life in Delhi isnt easy for everyone. There are a number of populations who live life on little or no income and live in slums. The number of people is hard to measure as many of them do not want to be known or move around a lot to find food and money where possible. A large percentage of these people are children. Children with a dream of better world for them, for everyone. We, Anurag Jain, Kalpana Ruhela, Sanchali Agarwal, and Vriti Bajaj, under the fellowship of Nokia Create to Inspire came forward to unleash, to be the change and most importantly to inspire the people of basti for their better life and future. At the very first glance, it looks very same just as any other local markets of Delhi. But going in the deep streets, what is seen is a cramped living scenario where Jat people (as they love to call themselves) are migrants from parts of North East India, Jharkand and Bangladesh. Interaction with the grownups gave us a very contrast outcome as although complaining constantly of the day to day problems they face that goes on from poor maintenance of roads to failed government policies provided to them, they still are reluctant for taking any action by themselves but waiting for authorities only to initiate which can be agreed by anyone- is a very long wait.

But on the very other side, the kids of the basti showed a very enthusiastic approach as somewhere they observed they realized something their parents did not. Being educated, being informed and being learned is going to let them join the front league of any profession and that can make them avoid unfair dominance in the name of caste, richness, gender, race or religion and to stand on their own feet without any dependency. The real problem starts from here for us as we have to answer what, when and how to many people but most importantly to ourself and during the entire course of this fellowship, we learned and even a small flickr is enough to bring out the change for whole society. Taking our medium as energy, we along with mentor, Vidyun Sabahney came up with various ideas through which we can create an impact in the minds of the children of basti and during the course not only from Nokia Create to Inspire Team but also we got guidance from people who are a renowned personality in their own fields. Dr.Sandeep Garg, program specialist, UNDP who actually gave us the whole understanding of 5- star rating appliances and how the idea helps in changing the mindset of buyers while buying home appliances. Ms. Charu Jain and Mr. Gaurav from advit foundation, who made us familiar with various solar energy equipped products and their benefits. Mr. Rustam Sengupta, founder of Boond, guided us along with the whole process, and also provided us all the necessary equipments needed for the commencement of our final outreach. Ms. Sumaya, program coordinator in YP foundation, with whom we came to know about the lifestyle of people living in basti, but due to some issues we could not operate in the Nizammudin Basti. We were introduced to Ms. Latika who is part of I am Gurgaon an organisation which has a major role in the development of the Bio Diversity Park in gurgaon. They have also adopted a basti nearby the Sikandarpur Basti where they had encouraged us to work with the kids. Along with the tremendous guidance, fun part was not at all lagging behind with workshops held by Nokia Create to Inspire where we got a chance to listen to some very important people in the field of sustainability and execution of ideas. Also, various fun workshops from our mentor Vidyun Sabhaney, Shohei Emura and various other mentors opened our mind in the field of idea generation and execution and helped us to picture exactly what we wanted as an outreach. Through uncountable number of meetings, discussions, Skype chat and guidance through all such people we finally came up with an idea of setting up an installation not only being interactive and operated by solar light, but also will be a medium for showcasing the artwork of the children of the basti. We finally came to know of a basti in Gurgaon, adopted by Biodiversity Park. The whole idea of taking up this certain basti is to not only educate the children about the benefits of using sustainable energy, but also the Biodiversity Park authority provided us with a platform where we can put up our installation of solar energy. Once the finalization of the location and idea was done, and then came the actual challenge of planning out the whole process and implementing on it.
