*Advent Sunday The first day of the liturgical year in Western Christian churches which determines when feast days, including celebrations of saints are to be observed and which portions of Scripture are to be read. *Feast of the Immaculate Conception Many people confuse the Immaculate Conception with the 'Virgin Birth'; the belief that Mary gave birth to Jesus while remaining a virgin, they are not the same thing; the doctrine preached on this day teaches that Mary herself was conceived without sin.
*Hanukkah The Jewish Festival of Lights, dating back to two centuries before the beginning of Christianity. *WINTER SOLSTICE The Sun enters Capricorn and is the shortest day of the year. One of the oldest celebrations in the world. Norsemen lit bonfires, told stories and drank sweet ale; ancient Romans held the 7 day festival of Saturnalia, when ordinary rules were turned upside down; men dressed as women and masters dressed as servants; the Druids would use a golden sickle to cut the mistletoe that grew on oak trees and give it as a blessing, they called this day Alban Arthan which translates as Light of Winter
