Session Content Warm up / Activation: The numbers game followed by match play (Whole)

Setup: Area marked 30 x 30 square. Content: Players are divided into groups of 4 with each player being assigned a number from 1 4. Each Main group has a ball. Within their group players pass the ball in sequence from 1 -4. Static to begin with and ball in hand. Progressions: o Players move around the area being aware of where the ball is coming from where its going to and aware of other groups who act as interference. Can you try to get into a position where you can see to receive but also to pass? o Ball is played on the floor o Create multiple options by giving the red group the number 1, blue 2 and white 3. Keep 3 balls. Now we have multiple options for players to decide who to pass to. o Introduce limited touches

Whole part practice setup: Area marked 40 x 30, 2 goals with markers creating thirds of the pitch 1/3. Teams line up 3,2,2 (inc GK) for 7 vs 7 which is representative of their club football. Encourage the players Can we find space to receive the ball? How can we create space? Ask players to start to think about playing through the zones if possible and introduce the idea s of rotation and shape 1

Part Practice Session: Spatial Awareness

Setup: 15 x 15 square set up as shown with smaller grids within 6 players, 4 on the outside of the square at each side and 2 in the middle. 2 balls with the outside players. Servers on the outside play the ball into feet or space. Receiving players try to take a touch to take the ball into a different square.

Note: 2 squares set up as there will be 2 groups working.

Progression: Detail: Cool Down: Preparation before receiving checking space. Awareness of the space around them and other players. Body shape to receive and travel. Accuracy and weight of passing. Communication and the different types. Why is it good to pass into feet / space? Condition the practice so that only 1 player can be in one square at any one time. Introduce another receiver. Introduce a defender.

Whole: Spatial Awareness When Passing or Receiving

Whole part practice setup: Back to whole part practice set up. Area marked 40 x 30, 2 goals with markers creating thirds. Normal play, teams line up 3 2 2 (including GK as a sweeper) Things to suggest: o How can we create space? o Can we try to find a space to support our team mates? o Can we try to see the whole picture? o Are you able to plan ahead? o What type of team shape might help us? o What type of touch might help you? o When and where might we pass the ball? Set challenges can you try to lose your marker? Finish session by removing restrictions and allowing players free time to be creative. Bonus points for the best team play goal!
