A Challenger Appears! Or: How I Learned to Stop Staring at Spreadsheets and Decided to Apply for This Writing Position
Since recently graduating from University of Wisconsin Green Bay, I have been working as Social Media Consultant and Marketer for The Rave / Eagles Club in Milwaukee, WI. In a lot of ways, this job is a perfect fit for mecombining my love for music, knowledge of the industry, and passion for social media. As of late, however, Ive felt something missing i n my professional career: the writing. While I do write boilerplate for my current company, its rare that I have the opportunity to utilize my unbridled enthusiasm for prose in my current position. While spending a recent lunch break poring over my expansive Excel spreadsheet used to track social media budget reports, I found myself deviating towards a Reddit thread speculating on a piece of copy. Your copy. The recent teaser for the Forecast Janna skin is, perhaps, some of the best teaser writing Ive read since, well, the last time Riot teased a release. Suddenly my mind was racked with daydreams of writing copy like that. With sharing intrigue for an upcoming release with the League of Legends community, as well as fueling that intrigue. The idea of writing that kind of copy, instead of Buy One Get One Tickets, seemed so liberating, so appealing, so fun. And then I realized that this need not be just a daydream. Which brings me to this letter. I want to be the one to write those quirky news briefs announcing some as-of-yet unknown release on the horizon. I want to be the one generating hype, laughs, and entertainment for players. I want to be the one building upon and protecting the brand that players such as myself hold so dear to their hearts. And what better way to protect that brand, seeing as the pen, after all, is mightier than the sword? Puns? You want puns? Ive got puns that would make the best quipsters shudder in their H&M boots. Im like a pun baker the way my word play crpes up on readers. I keep my forked tongue as sharp as fine cutlery, and sometimes I even try to throw other languages into the mix! But not Japanese, because of the different sensei of humor between NA and Asia. You want someone who can make tongue-in-cheek references without crossing the line into unprofessionalism? Well Ive got references and allusions a -plenty. Ive got trope and meme knowledge galore. You want someone whos seen a lot of movies? Ive seen the IMDB Top 250. Not a big deal? Ive seen more! I offer an insight not only into the world of hardcore gamers, who Ive cohabited with throughout college, but the world of the casual consumer on the go. I understand what gaming means to your customers and what they expect from the product you offer, but also what the layman wants and how to reach out to new markets who would otherwise find the MOBA genre inaccessible. As Writer, I will gladly write long and short form writing, whether that be a tweet promoting the latest eSports tournament, or an in-depth article about the companys day-to-day. I will brainstorm and work with the team to create excellent and engaging copy that our players will love and will gladly assist the team in all of their grammatical efforts. And I will do it all with style!
