A) READING COMPREHENSION.
On Christmas Eve, 24th December, people in Poland don´t eat much in the day.
In the evening, Polish families go out and look for the “Little Star”. When
they see the first star in the sky, they go home, celebrate, and eat a big meal.
Then they sit around their Christmas trees, tell stories, and sing songs.
In Australia, it is summer at Christmas time. The weather is usually hot and
people decorate their homes with summer flowers called Christmas Bells. A
lot of Australians have a cold Christmas lunch. Some people have a barbecue in
the garden or on the beach.
Iceland has got thirteen Santas. The first one visits people´s homes on 12th
December, thirteen days before Christmas. A different Santa comes every
day and leaves a present for the children. After Christmas, they go home
again one by one. The last one goes home on 6th January. This day is called
the “13th” in Iceland.
