Patrick’s a real rockin’ angel

OME people call him ‘Mr Rock-
in’ Angels’, some call him
‘the gentleman of Rock’ but
mostly people know him simply as
Patrick.
In the last five years Patrick
Chua and his wife Tikki
have turned Rockin’ Angels
Jammin’ Cafe in Phuket Town
into an essential venue, if you
are a musician or just a lover of
live music.
The success of the bar comes not
just from the décor or the quality
of the instruments available, it’s
due to the warm welcome that
Patrick bestows on everyone that
comes by.
You will never be alone in
Rockin’ Angels.
Ever ‘Mr Cool’, Patrick has
an easy manner and posesses a
humour that is contagious.
Patrick grew up in Singapore
and has done most things. But he
has always been a muso.
“I was quite active as a
youngster but I kept breaking
my glasses doing sports, so my
mother said I had to do something
less destructive,” he said.
“I was transferred from sports
into the brass band and I ended
up playing bugle, cornet and later
the trombone.
“Deep down though, I always
wanted to be a guitar player”

back in the mid 70’s, then went

HUN Orranut ‘Koong’ Stevens
wants to set you on the right
path and help you make the
most of your future.
It is accepted that some
people may be able to tune into
energy sources that are normally
unreachable by other human
beings and can use that force for
the good of others. This energy
or power could also be used as
a communication tool and allow
the ‘medium’ and the word must
be used guardedly to be the trans-
ducer that converts this energy
into information. ‘Medium’ is
used here in the context of being
something that carries something
else, not in the spiritual sense.
K. Koong and her husband,
Michael, run a company called
Provolution.
Its purpose is to provide courses
and therapies that help people
find out about themselves,where
they are in life as it were, and
then put them on the right path
for wellness and contentment for
the future. For some that path
might be a natural continuation
of the one they follow now, for
others it might mean a total life
change. Whatever the case may
be, Michael and Koong are well
qualified to make that assessment
and empower the change.
One part of their multi talented
approach to life assessment is
Life Cards. Koong uses cards (it
into acting and performing arts,
became a fashion designer and
then the captain of his own
charter boat called Rockin’ Angels
Sportfishing Adventure Charter.
The slump following the 9/11
attack on New York made him
realise that being in business
in Singapore was not where he
wanted to be.
“I really wanted to play music
so I moved to southern Thailand,”
he said.
“I opened a music bar and, for a
while, it was doing well.
“Then the terrorists started
playing games down there and
it was becoming unnerving, so I
came to Phuket.”
Patrick moved his bar up to
Phuket and Rockin’ Angels is
almost a mirror image of that
original bar.
The walls are adorned with
framed vinyl albums and tasteful
posters. The lighting is subtle
and atmospheric.
Equipment is carefully stacked
up and placed around the small
stage at the far end from where
Patrick controls proceedings.
“It immediately felt like
the right place to be,” he said.
“Now anyone who wants to
perform can come along and play.
I have everything here, so they can
just turn up”.
On quiet nights, Patrick will
play solo and try out new numbers

find out who you are and how you
can best adapt the way you look
at life to make your future a lot
more of what you want it to be
rather than what happens if you
do nothing. It is important to note
here that this is far from ‘fortune
telling’ it is more about appli-
cation skills.
The depth to which she assesses
the client’s current state of being
and then provides answers for
the betterment of the future is
staggering.
“For most of my life I was in
denial about the fact that I had a
special talent, despite being told
by many people that I did. This

read cards properly and she went
to a highly respected teacher in
Bangkok to instruct her in how to
read them.
Her teacher, Ajarn Hay, told
her that she had some special skill
and it was up to her to develop
that skill.
K.Koong had to choose between
being a successful Director of
Human Resources or a ‘life
guide’. She chose the latter and
used a well-timed pregnancy to
pracise her skills.
A session with K. Koong starts
with a short period of silent
thinking where you focus on any
problems you have or questions
that you would like answered
about anything that affects your
life, be it a career decision, a
matter of the heart or some other
pressing query. You then cut the
cards according to her instruc-
tions and she then lays the cards
out in a fixed order on the table.
In her hand there were three
cards left. These cards give infor-
mation about yourself, your work
and your future.
Koong then talks for a while
about you personality and attitude
to life.
During my reading she
made specific references to
play along with Patrick.
Patrick has no ego or preten-
tions. He enjoys the company
of musicians and he encourages
everybody, whatever their ability,
to join in and make music.
“Being able to play a musical
my work situation which took
me completely by surprise. It
was accurate, personal and not
something that she could have
been assumed.
The chances of K. Koong
knowing these things are impos-
sible.
Scepticism is a continual
questioning of what you see and
I am a sceptic.
What K. Koong was doing, very
effectively, was reading back to
me my own character, complete
with foibles and faults.
She then went on to talk about my
past, my present and my future.
All this time she was listening
to the spirit that was guiding her
through the reading.
Surprisingly I was totally
comfortable with the situation and
accepted it as part of assessing
myself.
She will literally hand you a
ticket to a good future. You have
to decide whether to take it or not.
I took it eagerly and could see
the truth in what I was being told.
Within that ordered deck of cards
was my story for Koong to read.
She interpreted it well and even
read between the lines giving
advice that was solid and correct.
A session with Koong normally
lasts 45 minutes. We were well
into our second hour and we could
have carried on all day.
Life Cards is a rewarding and
reassuring experience and it can
be life changing.

wonderful feeling and it should
not be solely for the virtuoso.
“Everyone should experience
that feeling whatever their level.
“People should not be frightened
to come along and play.”
Although Patrick plays
predominantly the Blues, he will
play whatever his audience want
him to sing.
His repertoire is large and his
ability without question.
He played recently in the Phuket
International Blues Festival and
his band was received with great
enthusiasm.
If you thought that Rockin’
Angels was a small and insig-
nificant bar in Phuket Town, you
would be very wrong.
Charlie Watts (drummer with
The Rolling Stones) and other
equally famous musical luminaries
have all passed through the doors
and have joined the queue to play
along with everyone else stopping,
perhaps, only to autograph
posters.

Koong explained why I am
who I am and it seemed to be
so obvious, yet I had never ever
thought along those lines before.
She laid it out before me in
a logical and understandable
manner.
I am still a sceptic BUT there
are people who are more in tune
with higher things than the rest of
us. Human beings are frightened
of what they don’t understand so
treat ‘spiritualism’ and such with
some disdain whereas, in actual
fact, spiritualists may very well be
the only people who have a truer
picture of what life is about.
It’s all right to have dreams of
owning big boats, cars and having
lots of money but the stresses that
either come with either the desire
itself, or the work you have to do
to achieve them, can make you
very ill and could even kill you. To
better yourself whilst maintaining
a complete inner happiness and
‘wellness’ is surely the best way
forward.
The image I had of myself in my
head was clearer than it had ever
been and I felt invigorated and
motivated to embrace this new
information and move forward
