It is about two brothers who go out hunting one day They find an emu the older brother kills the emu, the younger brother (despite being told to keep quiet) shouts out in joy. This alerts Piggiebillah, whose camp was nearby he comes to see what is going on. When he gets there he asks what has happened and the two brothers lie saying at first that they had found some mistletoe berries then saying that the younger brother managed to hit a small bird and was happy he could throw straight. Piggiebillah saw through this saying that it was not the cry for killing a little bird or finding some mistletoe berries, and says if they dont tell him what it was he will kill them.

The Weeoombeen brothers were frightened as Piggiebillah was strong and a good fighter and showed him the dead emu. Piggiebillah then takes the emu back to his camp and the Weeoombeen brothers follow him back they then help him prepare the fire to cook it, hoping they will be given a share of it, but Piggiebillah wouldnt give them any. The Weeoombeen brothers then go to some black fellows who lived near, and told them that Piggiebillah had a fine fat emu cooked for supper. The black fellows got up, grabbed their spears and got the Weeoombeen brothers to lead them to Piggiebillahs camp, promising them a share of the emu. When they arrived they formed a circle round Piggiebillah and then threw their spears at him. As the spears hit him he cried out that they can have the emu but they continued to throw spears at him. After this they turned to look for the emu but to their surprise they couldnt find either it or the Weeoombeen brothers. They looked round and saw their footprints leading to where the emu had evidently been, then saw that it had been dragged to a hump made of grass.

Page 3 1. When the two Weeoombeen brother saw the black fellows coming they dragged the emu to a big hole they knew of, that had a big stone at its entrance, that only they knew the secret of moving. 2. They moved the stone and got themselves and the emu into it before moving the stone back in place again 3. The black fellows tried to move the stone but couldnt, but they knew that the Weeoombeens must have. 4. They spotted a gap in between the stone and the ground and shoved their spears into it, thinking it would kill the two brothers, but the two brothers had seen this, anticipated the spears and had placed the dead emu in the way to act as a shield. 5. The black fellows thinking they had killed the two brothers went off to get help to move the stone, when they heard the two brothers laughing 6. They came back and speared again, and set off again to go get help. 7. Again they heard laughter and went back for a third time. 8. The two Weeoombeen brother, establishing that their laughter was bringing the black fellows back, decided to keep quiet this time. 9. After the black fellows spear shots were followed by neither conversation nor laughter they were sure they had killed the two brothers and hurried off back to their camp to get help to move the stone.

1. When they come back they move the stone and the Weeoombeens are gone, and all that is left is the emu carcass. 2. They look around and cant find any tracks and there is nothing but two birds. 3. They come to the conclusion that the two brothers had turned into birds. 4. And forever afterwards the little white-throat birds were called Weeoombeens. 5. And the memory of Piggiebillah is represented by a sort of porcupine ant-eater, which bears his name, and whose skin is covered closely with miniature spears sticking all over it.
