This is the mandatory point for the 2nd 9 weeks. Its a canned food drive and competition against the other clubs at school. Bring 5 cans for a point, or 10 for two points (2nd point is outside point). Were using paper cans to represent a tally of real cans donated by each organization. If you want to help hang them up on the wall, sign up on stage. The parade is today! Thanks to those who helped make the banner. No need to sign up - just be sure to sign in there! Sign up with Rebecca to volunteer. If youre required to donate something for the bake sale, make sure you turn it in today (10/23)! (See below for details) Order a volunteer shirt today from Sarah or Mrs. Henry if you want one. Last day to order. Pay by Friday ($11). Mandatory Events and Points: Mandatory Point: Red Ribbon Week (10/23) The mandatory point for the 1st 9 weeks is for Red Ribbon Week. Everyone bring 1 well-made drug-awareness poster and a roll of red ribbon to Mrs. Henrys room for a point. Posters need to be about drug awarenes s, being drug free, etc. and need to be in good shape, not rolled up. The poster and roll of red ribbon are due by 10/23. Ford Drive Makeup/Bake Sale (10/23) If youre one of the people who couldnt get someone to drive for you, youll need to do a make up since that was a mandatory fundraiser. Be sure to donate your designated bake sale item by 10/23! For other members, a point can be earned by donating a dozen cookies, brownies, candy bars (individually wrapped), sodas, or waters. Needs to be at least a dozen and donated by 10/23. Mandatory Point: Scare Away Hunger (10/28-11/1) Scare Away Hunger is a canned food drive and competition against the other organizations at school, and its our mandatory point for the 2nd 9 weeks. Bring 5 cans for a point, and bring 5 additional cans for an extra outside point! No Ramen noodles or perishable items please. Bring lots of cans so we can win the competition and Scare Away Hunger! Volunteer and Point Opportunities: Attendance Office (Weekly) We could use 2 volunteers in the attendance office from 77:25 every morning, weekly. Attend everyday for a week to earn a point. Contact Cecilia to sign up for a week. Powell Elementary Library (Tuesdays) Volunteer to help sort and shelve books at the Powell Elementary Library on Tuesdays from 3-4 pm. Sign up with Rebecca. Boys and Girls Club (Tuesdays and Thursdays) The Boys and Girls Club is open from 4-6pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Its located at 1000 Enterprise Dr.Grand Prairie, TX, 75051. Be sure to sign in there. Child Enrichment Classes (Tuesdays and Thursdays) Child enrichment classes are held at Kennedy Middle School on Tuesdays and Thursdays. They need help supervising and playing with the kids. If you go, youll be doing things like playing sports and games or coloring with the kids. Sign ups will be on the stage at the meeting and with Michael at other times. Grand Prairie Seminoles (Saturday) - The Grand Prairie Seminoles are looking for volunteers to work the concession stand at home football games. Games at the Young Men's Leadership at Kennedy Middle School: 10/26 The games usually last from 10am to 8pm. There is only one Saturday left for the year! Contact Chance to sign up for a two-hour time slot.

Homecoming Parade and Carnival (10/23) The parade is today! Thanks to those who helped out. Blood Drive (10/29-10/31) There will be a blood drive at school from 10/30-10/31. You can earn one point by donating blood or by getting someone to donate for you. Make sure you or your donor writes your name on the NHS sheet when you donate. Scare Away Hunger: Paper cans (10/29, 10/31, 11/1) Mrs. Henry will need help hanging up paper cans on the wall. Were doing this to display how many cans have been donated by each organization. One paper can will represent five real cans. If you want to help hang them up, there will be a sign up at the meeting on Wednesday. It is a commitment to help hang up cans on all three days after school, but it shouldnt take too long each day.

Upcoming Opportunities: Prairie Lights (11/28-12/31) NHS will be volunteering at Prairie Lights this holiday season. Well have more details soon. Diabetes Walk (Thurs., 11/14) The Diabetes Walk will be on Thursday, November 14, from 6-8. More details soon.
