Plans for the Year In my work managing three shelters for women and children I meet many smart, beautiful and strong womenamong the dedicated staff and also the women that succeed in leaving their violent homes and bravely facing the unknown. I also meet many good people that are happy to give and see their donations as a blessing. Its always a pleasure meeting them, sharing our activities with them, and enabling them to assist us. Unfortunately, during the September holiday season this year, we received innumerable requests at our shelters. Despite the Welfare Ministrys policy, which was initiated two years ago to deal with domestic violence within the community, making the shelters the absolutely final resource, the number of requests we had in September was equal to those weve had over the last two years and for the same reasons during this timeframe. We are very sorry about the Ministry of Welfares policy. We agree that it would be preferable for everyonewomen, children and the society overallif the woman and her children could stay safely in their home while the violent man receives treatment. Its important to know that the shelter is not an ideology! The need for shelters arises as a result of the harsh reality in which a woman finds herself in lifethreatening danger as long as the violent man knows where to find her. She is in constant and serious danger that doesnt end due to the incomprehensible fact that the violent man feels he has no problem and refuses treatment. Any way you look at it, the sad result is: our shelters are always full. We are always happy to help the people who need it and wed be happy to help many many more. It is very hard for us to know that a woman and

her children are in danger or in the streets, without a roof over their heads, and we have no way of helping them. Therefore, our organizations focus and goal for the coming years is to build three new shelters that can accommodate and help more women and children escape the cycle of violence. These new homes will be warm, comfortable and pleasant. Our fantastic staff will continue working with dedication and love. In order to achieve this goal, we are making special fundraising efforts, counting on our loyal donors and seeking out new resources. The overall yearly budget for our organization is about 10 million NIS, not including the building of the three new shelters. The construction of each new shelter is about 7 million NIS. This means that beyond our ongoing efforts to raise around 5 million NIS a year, (the Ministry of Welfare gives us around 5 million NIS a year for the three shelters and will not support our efforts for building the new shelters) we must raise about 21 million NIS through our own fundraising. We have approximately 60% of this amount to date. We invite you to join us and help with the important work of breaking the cycle of violence and helping people out of their dire existence and sometimes even a certain death, to move up and on to a brighter future. We can help them make real and lasting changes in their lives and the lives of their children. We are always happy to host you in one of our shelters or come and speak to you about the women and childrens lives before the shelter and inside it. Daniela Kehat CEO The Holidays in the Rishon LeZion Shelter In the Rishon shelter every month we have a joint activity with the Rishon Police Department, as was described in our last newsletter. This month the policemen brought dogs that specialize in locating drugs and explosives. The policemen demonstrated to the children how the dogs do their work and involved them in the process.

On the Simchat Torah holiday, as in previous years, the volunteer Ms. Ziva Blasberg invited the women and children for lunch in the succah at the Chefetz Chaim synagogue. The children danced with the Torah and got candies and gifts. About a month ago, two girls doing their national service started working in our shelter. I am happy to announce that the girls are managing very

The Activities in Hadera

The house we moved to is filling up with women and children, but also with exciting donations like the one we got from the artist Dalia Branover. She gave us beautiful pictures that we hung in our living room and are bringing us what they say on them: happiness, love and joy.

All of the mothers and their children went to a fun day at the Kibbutz Glil Yam pool. A magician came to the shelter and wowed us with his magic. We went on a trip to Ein HaShofet and visited the Ahava farm. We enjoyed the fun producing grape juice from smashing grapes in Gat.
