1 GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS
1.1 INTRODUCTION
The present market requirements in relation to the ante-theft security of vehicles off assurance companies and clients have resulted in the creation of electronic system that enable to start the vehicle only with authorised keys. This system is based on the comparison of the code emitted by the key and the codes authorised by the control unit. Therefor different technologies are used, from the emission of a code through infrared remote control to the lecture through radiofrequency of the evolutionary codes. The main problem caused by the use of loss or damage of the original one. Although there is a system of direct copy of codified keys, it is not possible to use this system with the modern evolutionary codes emitted by the current generation of keys.
1.2 GENERALITIES
The codification terminal of the RT-3 keys is especially designed to adapt the keys and control remotes independently to the technology used by the authorisation of the starter. The direct communication with the unit that manages the verification of the key and afterwards the authorisation to start (immobilised unit) permits the recognition of new authorised keys for the opening and starter of the vehicle.
Normally, the electromagnetic fields dont harm the equipment but they can cause bad functioning and loss of the information kept in memory. Unplug and store away the appliance in the supplied case if it is not in use. Never use different leads than the supplied ones. Verify the connection of the leads before its use. The manual of each brand details the functioning of the program, and the location of the connector. Read the procedure to follow as well as he annucements in relation to the use of the terminal and the codification of keys.
1.4 IDENTIFICATION
Inside the terminal a serial number is inscribed. Once the appliance has been switched on the terminals programming code is displayed. Any of these references is valid to identify the terminal and its specification is needed in case of technical consult and software updating.
1.4.3 TECHNOLOGY
The diagnostic terminal is equipped with protection system to avoid polarity reversal in the feed/supply as well self regenerating thermofuses to avoid the accidental short-circuit of the communication channels. The terminal of diagnose has protection systems to avoid the investment of polarity in the feeding as well as termofusibles autoregenerables to avoid the accidental short circuit of the communication channels.

Diferent available connector: Below are detailed the different kinds of connectors that can be found and how to use the right cable.
The colour of the connector points the type of electronic system we are dealing with.
11
C ) OBD-II Connector. From some time ago, almost every new vehicle comes with this new connector. To make diagnostics the OBD-II cable has to be used. This cable is suitable with all brands, so it comes with an adapter with electronic circuitry to fit communication with every vehicle.
12
In the Seat Toledo, the diagnosis connector is uncovered taking off the gearstick bellows.
In VW Golf series III, before July 1993, both diagnosis sockets are placed below false buttons on the dashboard. VOLKSWAGEN Passat 94 and 97 In Passat model of 1994, the socket is placed in the dashboard below a small cover as shown in figure.
In more recent versions of Golf series III there is an OBD-II diagnosis socket placed under a small plastic cover.
In Passat of 97, the diagnosis socket can be found in the central console under the hand brake.
13
VOLKSWAGEN POLO In VW Polo just like in SEAT Ibiza, Cordoba and Inca the diagnosis socket is in the drivers glove compartment.
AUDI 80 AUDI 90 AUDI 100 AUDI A6 In Audi 80, 90, 100 and A6, the diagnosis socket is placed in the fuse box in the engine area.
AUDI A3 / SEAT LEON / SEAT TOLEDO >98 In Audi A3, SEAT LEON and SEAT TOLEDO (>98) the diagnosis socket is in the front console and is uncovered after taking off a small cover.
14
AUDI A4 In Audi A4 the diagnosis socket is placed besides the rear ashtray between both seats. It can be accessed taking off the relative cover.
AUDI A6
In the new model of Audi A6 the diagnosis socket can be found below the steering wheel as shown in figure using the OBD-II cable.
AUDI A8 To access the diagnosis socket in Audi A8 you have to unmount the ashtray pressing in the zone pointed in figure 15 and taking off the small cover there.

3.2.2 ELEMENTS
The associated components to the inmobilize system of SEAT /AUDI / VW/ SKODA are:
Inmobilizers ECU: is the heart of the system and takes care of the recognition of both the authorized ignition key and injection ECU, allowing or not the vehicle ignition. Codified keys: The immobilizer ECU is able to recognize up to EIGHT keys. Transponder key reader: Radiofrequency emitter device that can read the keys stored codes.
3.2.3 CHECK UP
There is a dialog through an interconnection channel between the injection ECU and the immobilizer ECU ( W channel), to allow or not the vehicles ignition. This protection is implemented at two levels; so, there are two conditions to be fulfilled for the authorization to take place:
1. The immobilizers ECU is programmed to allow the starting only with the previously right coded injection ECU. That means that in case of an ECU substitution, the immobilizer has to be programmed to recognize the new injection ECU. 2. The immobilizer authorizes to start only if the keys code has already been stored by the system ECU. That means that in case the customer needed a new key, this should be recognized and memorized by the immobilizer.
3.2.4 OPERATION
The steps done by the ECU before authorizing the ignition are the following:
The user enters the key and turns it on. Each key has a chip that emits a code when excited by a radio-frequency signal. That signal is emitted from the ignition lock cylinder when the contact has been done, then, a sensor reads the keys emitted code.
16
The immobilizer ECU compares the read code with the stored codes(with a maximum of eight). If the read code matches with one of the stored codes, the immobilizer ECU authorizes the starting. Otherwise, if the use tries to start the vehicle, this will stop after two second of engine rotation simulating a systems fault to dissuade the thief. Moreover when the engine just starts, the immobilizers ECU proceeds with the recognition of the injection ECU allowing starting if the code is correct.
3.2.5 CODIFYING
The authorization of the vehicles ignition is determined by the check explained in the recognition section. Therefore, its imperative that the immobilizer ECU recognizes both the injection ECU and the authorized keys. Both processes are separated in the following functions: 1. Inmobilizer ECU codifying: procedure of recognition and memorization of the injection ECUs code. This process is necessary when substituted the injection ECU and/or the immobilizer ECU. 2. Keys codifying: Allows codifying and memorizing up to eight keys that allow the vehicles ignition. This process is necessary when: Immobilizer ECU substitution(in such case its necessary to follow before the step 1) New key codifying due to loss or malfunction of an already codified key.
The process of key codifying can be done from the CODIFYNG section inside of the IMMOBILIZER electronic system menu. Observe: Previous to any operation, consult the present faults so that there arent memorized faults pointing malfunctioning of the ECU or the radio-frequency transductor.

Key blanks and transponders standard and remote are available from your JMA distributor. When programming keys into the immobiliser system you will require a 4 pin or 7 pin code which can be programmed into the immobiliser system using your RT3 Diagnostic machine and software. On some VAG vehicles you may be able to extract the four pin code from the immobiliser system using the Pin Code bypass software which is being constantly updated and will be available as an update to cover 70% of the V.A.G range. When obtaining pin codes from the dealership these will be supplied in a 7 digit format which can be converted to the 4 pin code with the software pin-code disc supplied and is unique to the RT3 system. Remotes can be programmed using a special sequence. Any keys not present at the time of key programming will be erased from the system and always use the blue pod when programming.

IMPORTANT Sometimes, OPEL / VAUXHALL uses connectors identical to the diagnosis connector to implement different connections. The diagnosis connector is ALWAYS ALONE, YOU WILL NEVER HAVE TO DISCONNECT ANY CONNECTOR TO PLUG THE DIAGNOSIS UNIT. MAKE SURE YOU FIND THE RIGHT CONNECTOR.
IN
THE
20
Diagnosis connector, if placed in the engine area, its plugged to a dead-end connector with no wires attached, only a small wire making short cut.
If you find two wire strands plugged with connectors identical to the diagnosis connector, never unplug them to plug the Diagnosis unit. It could cause the unit destruction.
In some vehicles the connector is inside the vehicle, in the fuse box, as shown in figure 4.
21
Take off the cover (1) located beneath the hand-brake. There you can find the diagnosis connector (2).
4.2.2 ELEMENTS
In the particular case of OPEL / VAUXHALL, the associated components to the immobilizer system are:
Inmobilizers ECU: is the heart of the system and takes care of the recognition of both the authorized ignition key and injection ECU, allowing or not the vehicle ignition. Codified keys: The immobilizer ECU is able to recognise up to FIVE keys. Transponder key reader: Radiofrecuency emitter device that can read the keys stored codes.
22
4.2.3 CHECK UP
There is a dialog through an interconnection channel between the injection ECU and the immobilizer ECU, to allow or not the vehicles ignition. This protection is implemented at two levels; so, there are two conditions to be fulfilled for the authorisation to take place: 1. The immobilizers ECU is programmed to allow the starting only with the previously right coded injection ECU. 2. The immobilizer authorizes to start only if the keys code has already been stored by the system ECU. That means that in case the customer needed a new key, this should be recognised and memorized by the immobilizer.
4.2.4 OPERATION
The steps done by the ECU before authorizing the ignition are the following:
The user enters the key and turns it on. Each key has a chip that emits a code when excited by a radio-frequency signal. That signal is emitted from the ignition lock cylinder when the contact has been done, then, a sensor reads the keys emitted code. The immobilizer ECU compares the read code with the stored codes(with a maximum of five). If the read code matches with one of the stored codes, the immobilizer ECU authorizes the starting. Moreover when the engine just starts, the immobilizers ECU proceeds with the recognition of the injection ECU allowing starting if the code is correct.
23
In the OPEL CORSA 98, the connector is OBD II type and is found in the FUSE box.

Its absolutely necessary to know the immobilizer peculiarities to carry out in a right way remote control and key codification. Opposite to what you may think during the codification progress, keys are not codified, actually, each key owns a different code and the immobilizers ECU just memorizes the codes of the introduced keys. To accomplish key codification (learning) you have take into account the following: 1. Its imperative to know the PASSWORD to carry out the learning process. This code is handed to the customer with the keys and consists in a four character length alphanumeric code printed on a card. 2. During key codification, old key codes are erased from ECUs memory. This is why its imperative to have all required keys for the same session. 3. In normal mode, after introducing the key in the ignition lock cylinder and putting the contact on, the immobilizers lamp lights while checking the code. In case the key were authorized, the lamp shuts off in a second. On the contrary it remains on or flashing while activates an acoustic signal. During the diagnostic through the terminal, this working mode is defused, and its restored when the communication ends. Moreover, while keeping communication between the Terminal and the immobilizer module it wont be possible to start the vehicle even with an authorized key. Once again, normal operation is restored when the communication ends. 4. Once keys are codified, they have to be checked one by one. If you choose manual mode (verifying that the immobilizers lamp shuts off after putting contact) you have to take into account that you have to wait at least 30 seconds with the key off from the ignition lock cylinder. Otherwise, if you introduce a right key, and immediately after you introduce a faulty one, this last will pass the check too, allowing to start the vehicle. This way of working is because the immobilizer doesnt check the key code until 20-30 seconds after taking the key off. This makes easier to start the engine in case of accidentally stopping because theres no checking.

The OBD-II connector is valid for every brand this is why it has an special adapter with electronic circuitry to fin communication with different brands.
6.2.2 CODIFYING
To accomplish key coding the following points must be taken into account: 1. Its necessary to know the PASSWORD of the immobilizer system. This code is an 8 digit numerical code handed over to the customer with the original keys. 2. During remote control codification, old key codes will be erased from memory, therefore, all existing keys must be coded in the same session. In case that none of the keys is codified the old values remain in memory. 3. If a key is codified( authorized to start the engine), at the same time memorizes the function of remote opening with the radio-frequency remote control, therefore theres no need of additional actions. 4. The maximum number of keys to store is 4, the process ends automatically when this number is reached. The use can stop the codification when desired.

Technical Information There are many different immobiliser systems fitted to Renault vehicles some operating with transponder technology and some with keyless card system,Infra red or radio frequency may be fitted to some models and is used for central door locking and alarm operation for the immobiliser function transponder technology is used. There are three basic systems that are in use and all can be programmed with your JMA RT3 Diagnostic unit, Pin codes are required for programming this can be found in the service book or be requested from the Renault dealership. There are two different pin codes for different vehicles one has an eight digit code and is used on MEGANE and SCENIC models and a twelve digit code which is used on the CLIO and LAGUNA 11 models. When programming the blue pod must be used in conjunction with the OBD-II diagnostic lead and after programming has finished the vehicle should be left for 15 minutes before testing new keys. The remote plips can be programmed after the transponder with special sequence this information is available in the key fob programming guide. All keys and transponders are available from your JMA distributor together with further technical information.

vehicle by unauthorized people by means of a key recognition electronic system and codified ECUs. Ford uses two kind of immobilizer system named PAT I and PAT II, being this last an improvement of the first one.
7.2.2 OPERATION
There is a dialog through an interconnection channel between the injection ECU and the immobilizer ECU, to allow or not the vehicles ignition. This protection is implemented at two levels; so, there are two conditions to be fulfilled for the authorization to take place: 1. The immobilizers ECU is programmed to allow the starting only with the previously right coded injection ECU. This means that in case of replacement of one of the ECUs, the immobilizer must be programmed to recognize the new engine ECU. 2. The immobilizer authorizes to start only if the keys code has already been stored by the system ECU. That means that in case the customer needed a new key, this should be recognized and memorized by the immobilizer.
The steps done by ECU before authorizing the ignition are the following:
The user introduces the key and turns it on. Each key has a chip that emits a code when excited by a radiofrecuency signal. That signal is emitted from the ignition lock cylinder when the contact has been done, then, a sensor reads the keys emitted code. Immobilizers ECU compares the read code with the stored codes(with a maximum of 8 with PATS II and 16 with PATS I). If the read code ,matches with one of the stored codes, the immobilizers ECU authorizes the starting. On the

contrary, if the user tries to start the vehicle, the engine wont even try to rotate putting the immobilizers light on. Moreover when the engine just starts, the immobilizers ECU proceeds with the recognition of the injection ECU allowing starting if the code correct.
7.2.3 WARNING
The codifying process can be achieved by the user with no need with no need of the diagnosis tester. If the user has the master key (or keys): one red key for PATS I immobilizers and two keys for the modern PATS II. In this case refer to car users handbook to accomplish manual codifying. In any case, key codifying can be achieved with the tester. In this case, the following points might be taken into account:
In case of loosing one or more keys its recommendable to erase every key and proceed to codify the keys again. WARNING: The car wont start if you dont codify 1 key for PATS I system and 2 key for PATS II system. If you only wish to add one key, it isnt necessary to codify the previous keys, the system will maintain its codes. The protection of the key codifying process is usually programmed by time. In this case its necessary to wait for 10 minutes to get access granted, being unnecessary to enter any code.

8.1.2 ELEMENTS
In the particular case of CHRYSLER, the associated components to the immobilizer system are:
Inmobilizers ECU: is the heart of the system and takes care of the recognition of both the authorized ignition key and injection ECU, allowing or not the vehicle ignition. Codified keys: The immobilizer ECU is able to recognize up to eight keys. Transponder key reader: Radiofrecuency emitter device that can read the keys stored codes.

Technical Information
The Transponder Immobiliser System is known as Skim and is common across all models and a maximum of eight keys can be programmed to the Skim Immobiliser System. You will require a Four Pin Code for programming which can be obtained through the dealer network or sometimes can be found in the new vehicle documents invoice. The Software Card allows you to program additional keys or erase all keys. If you chose to erase keys you will need two newly cut keys to program to the vehicle before it will start. Once the keys are programmed into the system they cannot be used to program into another vehicle unlike other systems. If you try to program keys with the wrong pin code three times the system will shut down and you will need to leave a key turned on in the ignition for one hour, before you can attempt to program once more. The immuniser control light which is in the instrument cluster is a red circle which when the key is programmed correctly will go solid and go out. If the pin code is wrong or an incorrect unprogrammed Transponder key is used the immoliser light will flash constantly. The Chrysler Sebring and Stratus models use the Mitsubishi Transponder and Immobiliser System. To program these models use the Mitsubishi Software Card with Combo L1 Lead.

9.2.1 INTRODUCTION
The markets present requirements have promoted the introduction of electronic systems to avoid or difficult the vehicles robbery. These systems protect from igniting the vehicle by unauthorized people by means of a key recognition electronic system and codified ECUs. NISSAN uses a kind of immobilizer system named NATS.
9.2.2 OPERATION
There is a dialog through an interconnection channel between the injection ECU and the immobilizer ECU, to allow or not the vehicles ignition. This protection is implemented at two levels; so, there are two conditions to be fulfilled for the athorization to take place: 1. The immobilizers ECU is programmed to allow the starting only with the previously right coded injection ECU. This means that in case of replacement of one of the ECUs, the immobilizer must be programmed to recognise the new engine ECU. 2. The immobilizer authorizes to start only if the keys code has already been stored by the system ECU. That means that in case the customer needed a new key, this should be recognized and memorized by the immobilizer.
The immobilizer ECU compares the read code with the stored codes(with a maximum of four). If the read code matches with one of the stored codes, the immobilizer ECU authorizes the starting. On the contrary, if the user tries to start the vehicle, the engine wont even try to rotate putting the immobilizers light on.
39
Moreover when the engine just starts, the immobilizers ECU proceeds with the recognition of the injection ECU allowing starting if the code is correct.
9.2.3 WARNING
In key codifying, the following points might be taken into account: With the 14-pin connection, the diagnosis tester needs the key-on to be feed. During the codifying process all previously stored keys will be erased, so that its needed to codify all of them. Depending on the NATS system the access could need(or not) a code. In case an access code is demanded, the immobilizers identification must be verified. For this purpose, take off the plastic protection under the steering wheel and watch the label placed under the ECU.
If the label shows an A` or nothing at all, the code is number 5523`. If it shows B`, you should consult the official service and give them the numbers showed in the figure.

The INMO System fitted to these cars is known as NATS and there are generally two systems in use NATS 2 and 5.On NATS 2 cars the diagnostic lead is not OBD-II but a special lead supplied in your RT3 kit for pre 2000 vehicles. This lead also needs to be attached to the vehicles battery power supply positive in order to power the diagnostic unit. There is no pin code required for programming and a maximum of 4 keys can be coded to the INMO system, all keys required for coding need to be programmed at the same time as the system automatically erases keys not present. In some countries a password fixed is required for key programming this information is available to RT3 users only. With the OBD-II diagnostic system some vehicles require a VIN specific pin code which at present must be obtained from your Nissan dealership. The 2000 year upward vehicles with VIN specific codes can be coded to except a maximum of five keys. Key blanks and transponders are all available from your JMA distributor. New software being developed at present will be available soon to bypass the VIN specific pin codes.

In DAEWOO NUBIRA the OBDII socket is located close to the Driver door side, in the lower part
Technical Information
In function to the year of production, the vehicles of DAEWOO can have 2 different types of connectors, in the oldest ones: with system Inmo 1 the connector was one specific of DAEWOO and for the which the System RT-3 delivers a special cable of 12 pins (these cars had transponder megamos fix code , for which can be cloned directly with the TRS-4000 on a TP05 or a TP01). Later from year 2000 in advance, this model car appears in the market with OBD II connector and the necessary cable or lead to codify obviously is the OBD-II. Is possible to add new keys, only passing for programming process the new keys.

Technical Information
The VOLVO immobiliser system can program a maximum of six keys into the immobiliser system and four remotes. There are two basic systems covering different models and are known as immobiliser system 1 and immobiliser system 2.The software can add additional keys or erase keys and there is also the facility to count total amount of keys before you commence programming. When performing key programming always use the OBD-II diagnostic lead together with the VOLVO software card provided in your JMA RT3 diagnostic kit, The system requires a 4 digit pin code for key programming and is vin specific this is available from your VOLVO car dealership. Once the key has been programmed you can program a remote using a special sequence this information is available to RT3 users only. All keys and transponders are available from your JMA distributor together with more technical information. The software is designed for cars which do not use the VOLVO VARDIS immobiliser system which is currently used on all models above the year 2000.This software upgrade will be available soon.
