Topics 10/22/09 Using the digital and assignment drop boxes Setting up the gradebook Quizzes/Exams Embedding Videos Using the Blog as a Journal Adding Graphic Interest Assignment Dropbox Select Dropdown Arrow to add assignments. The select dropdown textbox will allow you to add assignments, discussions, blogs, etc. and automatically add points for a grade book entry all in one step.

Adding an Assignment Click on dropdown arrow Click on Assignment Name Assignment Provide instructions in the textbox Have option of adding an additional file with template, instructions, etc. Create a grade book entry Add point value Can do the same with blog, wiki, discussion, etc.

Blackboard Gradebook (gradebook through control panel) You can also add items to the gradebook if you havent added them from the dropdown select arrow. Student names will automatically be uploaded into the Gradebook View spreadsheet each term Remember to always click submit!!! New Grade Center has many other features.

Adding items o click on add item o here you give the name of the item, choose the category, describe it, determine points possible, and how the score will be displayed o you can also choose to make the item available and include in gradebook score calculator Managing items o click on manage items o here you can change the order of items in the gradebook and modify each item entered Adding scores not automatically entered o either click on the item name then Item grade list and enter grades or o click on a specific student name, then user grade list o or click on the blank spot in the gradebook Downloading grades at the end of the term o click on download grades o select comma then submit o grades will be downloaded into an Excel file on your computer

Discussion Points You can add discussion points as well so that those will show up in the gradebook.

Digital Dropbox (digital dropbox in control panel) Students can turn in work through the digital dropbox as well Good for large files Does not automatically link to gradebook so less convenient. Click on digital drop box in control panel and you will see submitted work there Remember to add file and send file One way for online storage for students working on long-term projects in more than one location. Quizzes/Exams Online Quizzes (control panel test manager) o click add test o give the test a name (not too long as it will be the title in the gradebook) o describe item o type in instructions students will see at the top of the quiz/test/assignment Creating questions o click on add and choose question type from the drop down menu o type in your question, point value, and response(s), click submit Question types o Multiple choice, Multiple answer, True false, Order, Match, Fill in the blank (must be exact to be correct), Essay, Random, others Modifying question order

o next to each question is a drop down menu that says question X o just click on that drop down menu and change the position of that question o you can also add in questions in between other questions by clicking on add question here on the right side of the page Grading the test o Blackboard will automatically score the quiz and upload the score into the gradebook o HINT: do not reveal answers/scores until after class so you can discuss the responses and so students dont share answers. Making the quiz/assignment available (assignments in control panel) o click on add test, select your test from the list o then select modify test options o click on open test in new window yes if you wish o choose to make the link available, if you wish o create an announcement for this test

Using the Blog for a Personal Journal Go to the select dropdown textbox and select blog. Give it a name and a prompt or description. Click on Private Journal Go to the bottom of the screen and link it to the gradebook by giving point values to the blog entry.
